You can use the embed codes from youtube,just for the main page in BoardIndex.template.php and for every pages you need to use index.template.php for placing the embed codes

This is an interesting way of achieving that using mods. Install this mod:

Or might you already have a video embedder mod like Aeva Lite or something? In any case, with one of those two mods installed, you can add a news item and paste a YouTube link as one of the news items (or the only one if you only want that one to show).

That will also allow your users to embed YouTube and many other video service URLs into posts.

Well, as far as I know there is no mod to add a video to the board index. I tried what I suggested out (not using aeva but the one I mentioned) and it mostly worked. I had three items in the rotation but only the youtube one worked. In any case, if you want to have a YouTube video on the board index, I believe the way to achieve that is to edit BoardIndex.template.php.
Look for:

Have you tried a portal block .... such as Tiny portal or simple portal ? That is how i did mine at one time. Then you can add the bbc code and put it where ever you like to put it.

I doubt MC73 wasted any of your time. If you change it daily, how are you changing it now or is that your plan? Without a mod dedicated to do what you need, you could pursue the avenue I mentioned. I don't have aeva installed so I cannot tell you if it works, but pasting in a YouTube URL in the News area worked with Simple Audio Video Embedder. It certainly took over the news area. Are you using your News as well? Without a dedicated mod to achieve what you're asking for or dedication to edit your BoardIndex.template.php file, I'm not sure what else to say.

Any updates to this? I'd agree with mashby on this though, there is no straight forward way to do this without mods,
and I know of no mod that would do exactly what you are asking.

To add to mashby's solution, place it in the Newsfader using the html or iframe code. That way you can set it to whatever size you want manually. The trick is to maintain the ratio 1.33 : 1 or widescreen.
