Tried to upgrade, forum now is a blank page

I was having problems with my forum with the avatars and uploaded photos suddenly not showing up, though they were all still in the actual folders. I had tried to get some help here but it seemed to be a mystery problem, so I decided I'd try upgrading to 2 from 1.whatever number the latest update had been. I backed up everything. I used the large upgrade. Found the instructions, everything seemed to be going well but now I just have a blank page where my forum used to be. Apparently I did something wrong. When I check the page source there's code on there but nothing is showing up but the background color. Was there some other trick between going to 2 from 1?

Update, ok I figured part of it out, apparently it's the themes. I found another post and used the index.php?theme=1 with the url and got the page up. I went in and changed it to the default theme. So that's working.

Now I need to find out how to get the gallery and ads back in and change the new theme.  I'm much more worried about the gallery than the theme.

Also the main thing I was trying to fix still doesn't seem to be fixed. The avatars and photos people uploaded to the forum are still not showing. This was the same problem no one could figure out before.

OK it seems new avatars and uploaded photos are working but the previously uploaded ones still aren't.

Just download the galery MOD and re-install it.
Normaly your content will be still there after it, even the settings shouldn't change.

Great! Everything seems to be working and even the image issues have all somehow resolved themselves. And my moderators like the new forum so far. Now to do a new theme. Thanks so much!
