Best Image Uploader Plugin For SMF?

Hey guys,

I just set up a installation of SMF 1.1.13 over at hxxp:ironnoob.com [nonactive] - I'm a visual person and I like pictures, so I want to make it very easy for users to post images.

I would really love an AJAX "Upload" button on the post page, sort of like WordPress has. I don't mind hosting the pics myself, in fact, I would rather do so.

I can't find a plugin in the mod browser that suits my needs - there are a couple that use external hosts, but as a result, involve some fidgety URL copying - and also I noticed the ImageShack one puts a little ad for a toolbar in the editor box. Gross.

Does SMF 2 RC5 have better image support? I can't find an up to date feature list.

Yeah - that one is exactly the one I was talking about.

Why the hell is there a link to download the image shack toolbar in the post form - that is so incredibly gross that I would rather switch to phpBB than use that mod.

And if no response then try to PM the developer.

I don't know if it's allowed if you do it yourself for your own forum, but you can edit that bit of text from the files. Although i won't be giving more info on how to do that, since it might be going against copyright on that developer's work.

Hi. I too am looking for an 'easy uploader' for my smf forum (1.1.13), to encourage users to use images.  However, I'm nervous about hosting the images on a third party site.  Should I be?  Or am I missing an uploader that will store images/attachments locally? Thanks very much!

Well, it's always best not to rely on third-party sites. If you have enough bandwidth for your server package, then by all means host all your images yourself. You can configure SMF to use attachments for all images. Go to admin panel > Attachments and Avatars > Attachments mode: > Enable All.
