Update forums to 1.13 and my site disappears.

I just updated my forums in order to solve a IE8 issue.  After I completed the update, my entire site has disappeared.

I enter the link to my site and I get the SMF forums instead of my usuall first page.

Any help would be appreciated.

I did read about something similar, but that was for a install.

Only by accident, I discovered this.

If I log into the forums, which everything works fine and stay logged in....

I opened up another explorer window, entered my site and viola, everthing started to work normal, loged in, saw everything, even saw the smf forums on the site...everything worked fine.......until I log out.

When I log out of my site, it takes me to the forum log in....which it should take me back to me front page of my site.

This sounds like it's going to be a simple solution, but...

Did you set permissions to where you have to register first before viewing the Forums?

I didn't change a thing.  My site has been running perfectly.  Then I was trying to help someone and noticed that I had forgotten to upgrade the forums, so I did.

When I did, I get the smf forum instead of my homepage.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  Anything I can check to see what the update changed to mess it up?

I'm not following this.  Your site url normally goes to your website homepage, then links to your forum?  Are you using a portal?  Can you post the link?

When in Emor, do as the Snamors.

That is correct.  I did the update to 1.1.13 .  Then after the update, when you goto the website, the forum appears.  Not the website.

Illori

it would help if you provided a link so we can *see* what you are talking about, otherwise we can keep guessing all day as to what the exact issue is.

I should also mention, that this may have something to do with Internet Explorer 8.

OK, try this: go to your admin panel, Features and Options then make sure to check "Allow guests to browse the forum".
Let us know how this works out.

BTW, you might want to rename that folder where you installed your forum from php2 to smf (just a note for consideration) or just drop the folder name to something more generic like "forum" so you don't have to rename the folder everytime you change software, in the future.

I appreciate the suggestion, but for security purposes, that folder will not be renamed.

The forums are working fine and have been for the last 5 years.....this update that I did, did something to prevent the website from loading.  Another member on staff mentioned that it may have something to do with the bridge on the site.

On a normal day, you log into the site, and it logs you into the forums at the same time.  The forums are wrapped into the site.

Ah ok, here is what you need :)

Redirect on Login and/or Logout mod.
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1443

On that mod's page, it says it's compatible up to 1.1.11 but there are no big changes between 1.1.11 and 1.1.13 so it should work fine. Just change the values in the package-info.xml file.

This looks interesting.  Before I install this mod, I have a question.  It says that when someone logs into the "forums" , it redirects them.  My issue is we can't see our website.  Our members log into the website without ever seeing the forum login.

Comments?

Try out that mod and read the info about setting the correct login and logout URLs. If you set these URLs correctly, then you should be able to twist it into redirecting to any URLs when your users login or logout.

Shark, thanks again.  Would it help to know that the site is Joomla based and it is using the JoomlaHacks bridge to join the SMF to the Joomla site?

That modification is to circumvent only the missing/misconfigured redirection setting from that bridge. So, if you had the bridge installed and configured properly, then that mod would not be needed. In that case, you will need to get support at that bridge's support site. But if the mod fixes your problem with your site/forum, then i guess there's no need to probe any further into that bridge issue.

I still haven't found a solution to this problem.  Is there a way that I can revert back to 1.1.12?  It's obvious that this 1.1.13 doesn't work with my site and it's getting anoying that I can't access the site on the first try.

Good Day, I would like to add the following for a FYI for the SMF team.  After spending a week at trying to come up with a solution, I still have not been able to resolve the site upgrade error, but I have this information to share and maybe might help.

After careful testing, the following is observed:

Upgrading to 1.1.13, my website was still unviewable by the public domain on any IE version of explorer with Windows 7.  XP users and Firefox users were able to see it.

After un-installing the 1.1.13 to 1.1.12, the following is noticed:

Windows 7 users without an update (windows update) can not view the site.
Windows 7 users with the update can view the site.
XP and FF are still able to view the site.

Some thoughts for the SMF teams.

Cheers,
