Topman

I was trying to add some links to my main website using the header and footer mod and then everything went except what you can see!
http://www.brand-newhomes.co.uk/forum/smf/index.php
I also uploaded a sitemap for google to crawl which included all the SMF forum urls.
Was this a good idea?

What have I done?

PLEASE HELP ME!!

Dzonny

Hello there.

Can you please attach index.template.php from your default theme?
I would suggest to remove header and footer mod (manually) if you cant get to admin section and remove codes that you added.

Regards.

Hi,

Did you try to rename  index.template.php~ to  index.template.php And see what that brings up?
Also be sure to rename  index.template.php to  index.templateuse.php Even though the file is here can never have enough backups.

Just a side note. Once you have this issue fixed upgrade to the most current version. The version you are running is very old and many security issues have been repaired since that version came out.

If I upgrade will this problem fix itself?

tumbleweed

I personally would not do that.
However try this.

The first file index.templateog.php) is a clean file that has the ads edits added it. Do not forget to remove the "og" in the name.
The second file (index.template.php)  is a clean non altered file for your version.

Yes tried that!  Nothing happend.  Should I reinstall or something?
Not sure what you mean about renaming the index.template.php/  If I back it up from from my server to my PC does it matter what the name is?

tumbleweed

What you are doing here is replacing the current index.template.php files. I just rename so they do not over write the original ones. I see that you upgraded your site. Have you reloaded the default theme as well? does not look like it since its running ads and has links created by the header/footer mod.

Please see this post were I have altered the index.template files for your prior version.

I have not reloaded the default theme.  Should I do this?

I am not sure what I should do with this.  I have uploaded using ftp transfer, replacing the other one on the sever.  But my forum is still the same.
I have tried refresh and deleted history so dont know why it is not working.
very frustrating.

tumbleweed

Post step by step what you done so far.
Remember I am not sitting next to you.

Thanks

First, I really appreciate your help.

This is what I have tried:
I wanted to add some links etc and used the header and footer mod.  then I changed some html code in the header box to move the menu you can see lower.
Then I lost everything.

Since I posted here I have:
In the default theme:
1) tried uploading a new index.template.php file using ftp.  The new file I extracted from the zip I downloaded.
2) I have done the same with your clean index.template.php file.
3) I have  replaced the whole default theme folder with the one in the download original zip -  still no change.

I have:
Backed up the index.template.php file on my PC  (the one that isnt working.)
Backed up the MySQL database.

I am happy to re install it all so long as I dont lose my database (and my database works with the  upgrade) if that will be the easiest.
It shouldnt take too long to re do all the catagories again and settings.

I have absolutley no knowledge of php.  Can I make the changes using ftp or do I have to use phpmyadmin  which I dont understand apart from backing up the MySQL.

Dzonny

As i can see version that you running is 1.1.13, which is the last stable version. Or have you done upgrade in the meanwhile?

If you are sure that something that u add in global headers and footers mod couses this issue, i would uninstall mod manually by following instructions: (this is for installation, you need reverse process)
Manual Installation of Mods

Also before doing any changes, upgrades or anything, please make sure that you have complete backup of all files and database on your pc.

Regards.

Topman

I am backing up the Forum folder in my server at the moment.

I cannot understand the instructions in the link.

I have deleted the mod folder from the server.   I dont know how to mess about with code like that in the link.

Would it be easier for me to just get rid of 1.1.13 and upgrade to SMF 2,0 RC4?

My database would still be ok right?
And the catagories?

Topman

Everyone!

I have just deleted the text files I created (using the Global header Mod) from the server and bang it all works again.

Dont know what caused it all!

Thanks for your help.

A very relieved bunny!

Dzonny

topman, deleting mod pack is not the same as uninstalling mod.

Im happy to hear that all works fine again, and i hope that you wont have this kind of problems in the future :)

Just to answer an your previous questions:
If you wish to upgrade to RC5 all content will be saved of course, you just need to upload upgrade pack and run upgrade.php.
However you should have backup just in the case that something goes wrong.

Also, i would suggest to wait for a few days for a stable 2.0 version that is announced.

Regards.

Topman

Its no over yet!

My Google ads are not displayed despite being in the ad managment.
Nor is analytics.

I thinbk I need to uninstall both these mods too and reinstall them now I can gfet to my admin properly.

Dzonny

I guess that it is because you have default index.template.php uploaded and that mods isnt there.
You should go on mods site, fine that mods, see parse for 1.1.13, and then just add codes in index.template.php.
If you uploaded any other default files from installation pack you should also add codes in them too.

Topman

I got the ads and analytics working again.  I just uninstalled the mods and reinstalled them.

How do you add codes in index.templte.php?

I assume you mean the one that is in the theme being used.

Dzonny

Oh, ok, reinstalling mods helps, ok.
So, everything works fine again?

Please mark this topic as solved if your problem is solved.

Regards.
