Even All,

I have just moved my forums from a home server to a webhost and have the Redirect set up.  What I am looking for is how to make a page show up that says:

"This site has moved and the new address is www.blahblahblah.com, if the page doesn't load then please click the link"

Everyone has probably seen this and the above ex was just that.  I currently have a Redirect 301 through an .htaccess file on the server but don't exactly know where to go from here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Hello there.

You just need to change your index.html (or add one if you dont have it) to your previous host (where you want the text to be shown), with just few html lines with text and link to your new web site.

Let us know if you need further help with making that file.

Regards.

Even Dzonny,

Thanx for the quick response.

I read that while searching for answers but not quite sure how to call it from the .htaccess.  Maybe I don't quite understand the flow but I figured that since there is an .htaccess it does those commands first then continues on so how will the index.html file get called ?

Dzonny

You can delete .htaccess if you want and upload index.html file that is opened first when accessing some web site.

Arvo Dzonny,

Sorry to be a pain, but I am just missing something I guess.

I can create the index.html file you suggested without an issue but once I delete the .htaccess file I loose the Rederect 301.  That part is kind of important because it tells google that I am permenantly redirecting the original site to the new site.  If I don't do that then I start all over again with getting listed and stuff.  No, we are at the bottom of the list but at least we are somewhere..lol

I have searched to see if I can incorporate the Redirect in the html but didn't have much luck.  Once again, the old site a home server being run on Apache so I can pretty much do what I want.

Hello again.

You can manage 301 redirect with many ways, here is some of them:
http://www.webconfs.com/how-to-redirect-a-webpage.php

There is also meta redirect, but I'd really advise against redirecting this way since many search engine have difficulties with it.
However if you want to use this here is code:
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="10; url=http://example.com/">

Content="10; tells the browser to wait 10 seconds before transfer, choose however long you would like, you can even choose 0 to give a smoother transition.

If i were you i'd leave how it is, with .htaccess redirect, couse search engines and members will see it as redirected and they wont lost.

Regards.

Even Dzonny,

Thanks for all your help, I will just go ahead and leave it as is and mark this resolved.
