Changeing Default theme ?

Hello, my name is Garry, I am new here,..so if this is wrong I am sorry
I read the read me first, but am still not sure if this is the right place,
Ok , I was told I can not use the default theme, for my forum, but actually I like the default theme,..But the other problem is I don't know how to "write" a new theme,
useing html I could, ...I looked at the templates that are offered, but those all look pretty much "default"too, and did not see any I liked,..So I am wondering what is involved in writeing a "theme",..? or can anyone direct me to where I can learn that,?
Also kind of wonder what is so wrong with the default theme, if we shouldn't use it, why do they have it ?

the only reason you can not use the default theme according to this forum, is if you want to be in the showcase, which is why you were recommended to pick a new theme. also by using the default theme some users will by-pass the forum and move on to others that are more unique.

also since you do not host your own forum, you need to find out if there are any restrictions on your free host as to what themes you can use if there is a restriction on that.
