I Am not able to log in IE, Chrome and others..

Please Help me fixing this issue

I get this error "You were unable to login. Please check your cookie settings. "

I also cleared all cookies but still same problem..

I have noticed another thing.. I am able to login using the login area which is in the bottom of the board index but i am not able to login using the top right corner login area box...

Logging in using the login page also not works.. Only the bottom one works in all browsers.

What can be the problem ?

you could also check if enable local storage of cookies is checked or use subdomain independent cookies is checked, and switch them around. in admin -> server settings -> feature configuration

i did not ask if it was checked, it was to switch them around as sometimes it works better the other way around.

But I want to know what is the problem ? Why is the bottom login working ? Why top one is not working ?

What can be the reason ? And what is the solution ?

I am using Pretty URLs

Does that effect anything ?

many people have issues with pretty urls, you could try uninstalling it and see if it works without it.

I tried that but no change... The botton login area works fine.. I think there is some issue in the coding.. What can be that ?

Please help me :(

It's a bug in 1.1.1x and 2.0 that affects IE8, and I believe Chrome.  If session length is set to 60, it will throw the cookie error.  If session length is "Always stay logged in", or "Forever", or anything other than 60, login will work.  Not too difficult to edit the code to eliminate the problem.

Of course, would be a lot simpler if SMF fixed the bug.

Can you post a link to your board?  Not sure which logins you're seeing.

I feel SAD because SMF HERO and SMF Support Specialist doesn't even know that it's a bug of SMF :(

just because we have been here a while or even on the team, does not mean that we know about each and every bug that is currently in smf, that is not part of why we are here.

Rohan_

Okay Illori I can Understand that..

But now you got to know that it's a bug.. Then now please help me in disabling the 60minute default login and making always logged in a default..

OR

Please provide a permanent fix for this issue

Looks like a custom theme.   Attach your index.template.php and Register.template.php, and I'll fix it when I get back tonight.

on the same page i pointed you to above, you can change the default login cookie length in minutes you can put a very large number and it will act as if it is forever.

Thank you For giving this topic your time.. I appreciate it.. but I think the issue is solved just by editing the login cookie amount..

But I am requesting to SMF STAFF to fix this issue in next update of SMF..

It is annoying millions of users

Any value other than 60 will work.  If you want to keep the session length option, just set the default to 65.

I can't reproduce this in either 1.1.x or 2.0. Tried both IE8 and Chrome. Both log in without problems using a 60 minute default.

Roahn, I very much doubt that this is annoying "millions of users" given that it does seem to work for a lot of people. This is the first time I have seen this mentioned as being a problem.

It's been fixed on this board.  My 1.1.13 and 2.0 installs both throw the error.
