I recently lost my hxxp:domain.com/forum/ [nonactive] folder due to a hacking incident.  I still have the SQL database with all of the posts, user data, etc and it's sitting on the web hosting service where it's always been.  Can I do a fresh install of SMF 1.1.13 and use the old SQL (also from 1.1.13)?  I've tried to do an installation but the installer refuses because there's already an installation of SMF.. although, as far as I know, that SQL database is the only remnant of the old installation.  The /forum/ folder was completely wiped.  So, is there some way to do an install and point it toward my old SQL?  Maybe installing a fresh install with a fresh SQL and then importing?  I've never done anything like that before so I have no idea if it's possible.  Hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.  Thanks!

install a fresh one on a new database. once it is done, try to replace the old settings you have to the new smf install (settings.php) or use repair.php.

You can do the way as RvG mentions, however you can try and make it a little bit easy for you.

- Download the Large Upgrade of SMF 1.1.14
- Extract it and upload it on the server.
- Download the Main install of SMF 1.1.14 and extract the Settings.php
- Place it within the same directory as the files of large upgrade.
- Use repair_settings.php to fix your Settings.php file and the paths.
- Run upgrade.php by going through yoursite.com/upgrade.php

You should be fine after doing the above. :)

Make sure that you delete the upgrade.php and the .sql files from the folder if not removed automatically.
