Modification Problem

I prefer SMF over all other forum applications. I feel that it is well created and there are alot of Nice themes aswell.

I have some slight problems with my fourm

I am using a Theme called "Inferno" and SMF 2.0 RC5.

I have alot of bots signing up on my forums and posting alot of stuff, which is very irritating. I have setup captche codes and Anti-Spam, it seems like thye get through it very easy. I get told alot to install Mods. Mods never work! I can never install them on the theme i want! Even on the default smf. I always get errors.

Is there currently no simple modifcation program which automatically changes the script to be compatible with the current them i have? Or anyways i can overcome this problem?

Also, if you know of any ways hwo to reduce spam/bots please let me know!

Hello there and welcome to smf community.

Are you talking about forum that use English as default language? If not i would suggest to set some simple question on registration on your language, so bots cant get through it.

There is many mods in Spam prevention category, maybe KeyCaptcha would do the trick for you, as it has just one template change so its easy to install?

I'm sure the httpBL mod and BadBehaviour mod will work with the Inferno theme.

I cant install any Mods with the theme i have , i get alot of errors due to it not being compatable with my theme. Which sucks. Kinda forces me to use the default theme.

Inferno was last updated fro RC4, so the differences for RC5 and 2.0 should be very minimal, if any. What errors are you getting when you install a mod?  Often, it is simply a matter of manually searching the index.template.php file for your theme for the text string the mod is looking for and manually replacing the code, or adding it before or after the search string.  In most cases, it is usually only one that can't be found by the installer.
