I had previously tried to upgrade from 1.1.13 to R5 and made a complete mess of it so before i even attempt R5 - 2 Gold i want to make sure what i am doing please

Firstly i have no idea how to use this webinstall tool and don't even know if my hosts (Host papa) allows it so i will skip that way
So i will be attempting via ftp so please correct me if i have this wrong

I have downloaded my www.mysite/sfm forum to a hard drive and used the backup system in cpanel too also in admin/maintenance/database i have backed them up also..am i fully backed up now ?
I download the smf_2-0_update.zip extract to desktop and uploaded the extracted files to ftp overwrite any files ?
after all files are uploaded i use http://www.mysite/smf/upgrade.php in my browser and follow the instructions ?

I use quite a few Mods so very scared that everything is going to be messed up when i do this also use default theme

If you are using the large upgrade package then the mods will be dropped and need to be reinstalled. All your data should be saved in the database for the mods so you shouldnt lose any information. I have also heard it may help to uninstall the mods before performing the upgrade.

Hello there.

I would suggest to do backup directly via phpMyAdmin instead of admin panel.

Then you should download large upgrade pack for 2.0, upload and overwrite those files, and then run upgrade.php file and follow instructions for complete upgrade proccess.

Also take a look at Upgrading SMF docs for more information about upgrading.

If you have any questions regard this feel free to ask.

Regards.

Hi there,
Is there any docs on how to do this please its my first time inside phpadmin and i dont even know where to start :(

Thank you all for the support replys

Dzonny

Just google for it, but you should use export tab.
Also, dont delete backup that you already did via admin panel, just make the one via phpMyAdmin just in case.

Regards.

Question, i have uninstalled all mods but default avatar/smf gallery lite/custom top menu/contact page all gives me a error

LainaaError in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

Should i continue to uninstall or what should i do please

thank you

Illori

you would need to manually edit those files that fail Manual Installation of Mods

before i can upgrade i have to edit those files ? woow think i might be staying with R5 if thats the case i have no idea what i have to do  :-[

Dzonny

You dont have to uninstall any mods before upgrade, as large upgrade will overwrite all files and that will automatically uninstall mods.
The only thing is that there may be some extra tables in database related to your installed mods, if you have mods that have some extra tables, but thats not the problem, so you can manage large upgrade without uninstalling all mods.
