I am a current user of SMF 1.13 and congrats to all the development and updates for the release of SMF 2.0.
How easy is it to upgrade from 1.13/1.14 to SMF 2.00 - is there an easy upgrade package to allow this? I see there the full installs and updates for SMF 2.0 but I have not been running v2.00 on any system.

Cheers.

Hello there.

Upgrade is very simple actually, just download and upload large upgrade pack, and overwrite all files from your server with it. Then just run upgrade.php file.

Please read Upgrading SMF docs.

Regards.

Chris K

Mmm Odd, I cant upload any of the large 2.0 upgrade packs, the zip gives me server permissions errors, the tar gives me file damaged or incomplete errors.

Chris

Illori

use the zip, upload it to your server and use ftp to change the permissions to 755 or 775. How do I chmod? / what is chmod?

Morn Dzonny,

Once again, thank you for the help with my other issue.  Since this thread is perfect to ask I will go ahead and hopefully it will answer other users questions.

With all the changes that I have made to my site, will I have to redue them all ?  I get nightmares about making changes to anything more or less the whole site.  Is it really that beneficial at this time to upgrade or should I just wait until I have to ?

Thank you for your time,

nob4uask

Dzonny

nob4uask, Its up to you, but i must say that if i were you, i would just do small update to 1.1.14 and wait for a while before upgrade to 2.0 version.
But however, version 1.1.x is future frozen, and it is no stable version anymore, so upgrade to 2.0 is recommended.

Chris K

ok, once I have uploaded it (which directory / folder does the ZIP go?) and how do I apply it once uploaded? normally I just use package manager and it works fine.

Dzonny

If you talk about update from 1.1.13 to 1.1.14, you can update by clicking link provided in admin panel, or by instaling small update pack that you can download from this site, and apply it like any other mod.

Chris K

no this was referring to uploading the SMF 2.0 Large Fix by FTP... Which directory do I put this and how do I apply it?

Illori

you override all your existing files with those in the large upgrade package, then run upgrade.php.

Chris K

ok.. unzipping and upgrade went through fine, but the menu bar is messed up and I can only see Messages, cant even seem to get to Admin menu?  :(

Illori

sounds like you need to reset to the default theme, try adding index.php?theme=1 to your url

Chris K

That displayed it ok, but under themes 'Core' it shows -> Theme directory (templates):  (warning, this path is not correct!)

Illori

is there a link to reset the path? if so click it.

Chris K

Nope :(
This is how it reads:

Theme directory (templates):
(warning, this path is not correct!)
URL to above directory:
    http://www.energize-group.co.uk/smf/Themes/core
URL to images directory:
    http://www.energize-group.co.uk/smf/Themes/core/images

Its not a link the warning..

Illori

on the bottom of that page is a link to correct the paths

Chris K

Mm :( tried that its not worked...

Out of interest the server this is running on is in my house, there are 4 themes installed or showing.
1. SMF Default Theme
2. Enterprise
3. Dragon Wisdom
4 Core Theme.
All show C:\Server\SMF\Themes\<folder name> for the templates.
Except 4. which shows the warning.

Chris K

When I try and modify themes I get 1 to 3. No 4.

Illori

does the core theme actually exist on your server?

Chris K

yes just checked it, core does exist (i'm RDPed onto it now). Ok... managed to sort the invalid file path bit, it had
C:ServerSMFThemescore on the templates for it.

So that fixed that..

Now when I pick Enterprise, it messes up the menu, cant remember if the theme for Enterprise is RC2 or 1.x (I'm not running tiny portal)
