problem installing mod

I'm trying to install the anti-spam httpBL http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2155

Unfortunately my SMF install says (DUTCH) 'An Error Has Occurred!
Je kunt geen nieuwe packages downloaden of installeren omdat de package directory niet schrijfbaar is!'

In other words (English) : you can't install or download new packages because the package directory is not writable.

However, both the SMF backend and my FTP program agree that the packageS directory IS writable (777). In fact, the zip file for the mod is present IN the packageS directory.

What am I missing?

I'm using the 2.0 new build on www. hxxp:boeddhaforum.nl [nonactive]

do you have a temp folder in your packages folder? if not try creating one.
