Hi
I'm running 1.1.14 and want to set up a separate 2.0 test forum (in another unique directory) that allows users to test it out "live" before I decide to change the main forum over.
I was all set to do this, then I read that 2.0 has a new database table structure?

Is ti possible to have a 1.1.14 forum and 2.0 forum running at the same time off the same database like this?

Thanks
Dave.

You do NOT want the forums running from the same database, if by that you mean calling exactly the same tables. That would be a recipe for disaster for both sites. You can have two sites on one database IF you make sure they are seperated by having two sets of all tables, with different table prefixes for each forum.

Personally I prefer to put seperate sites on separate databases as I find it just makes things cleaner and easier to handle. If your host will allow you to create an extra database I'd suggest doing it this way.

Anyway yes, the 1.1.x and 2.0 databases are different in structure so you will have to make a copy of your 1.1.x db and then upgrade it.

That's what I suspected, thanks.
I'll make a new database and run with an old copy of the data, giving people the opportunity to play with the new 2.0 forum on some old forum data.
Thanks

Please make sure that when you restore the old data into the new database, you also take repair_settings.php from this site's downloads page, and run it from the second forum directory. It will allow you to change the paths and other information from the first forum to those appropriate for the second forum - you don't want one to use the others. :)
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.
