Gents:

Is there any hope that in the future a much more difficult new member registration process will be added? I got so tired of jerks invading my new registration list that I finally shut down registration all together. That was the only way to terminate those idiots. Now, the only way to register is by emailing me. The Jerks are gone, but at the expense of losing all automation in registering...

Spammers are certainly annoying at best. There are a couple of mods you can use. I've found this one to be a rather neat one. I've also done what you've done. Member Approval. It's not ideal. Mods to make registration more difficult and not so bad for humans is a middle ground.

Thanks, that looks like a good solution. It should cut off the Spam-bots anyway.

After trying out alternatives, I've found this combination of two mods/settings to stop nearly all spammers if combined:

HttpBL For 1.1 and 2.0 &
Anti-Spam Verification Questions for 1.1 (2.0 has this built in)

I also had to make my forum registration only which I don't mind but new members are not seeing the letters to type in the box when they register. I just tried it myself and they don't show. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi jilly, it would probably be best if you opened a new topic on your issue :)
