After upgrading up 1.1 Beta, Guets no longer can get far on the Forum. They get as far, sometimes, as the list of Forums, but trying to Read a Topic results in "You don't have permission to access /community/index.php on this server"
Regular uses registered can access everything.

Try it here - go to http://okpickleball.ca, click on the Pickleball News link at the left, browse to topic areas and try to access a post. Then Login as looker with pw looker.

I checekd the permissions and Guests are at the default look but don't post.

Any hints on how to allow Guests to look around - even look at posts?

Guests cannot do anything serious like Register even.

HOWEVER:  Accessing it on another computer, same O/S, same version of IE same IE settings and Guest works!!!! - has access to view posts, even write posts!  The comnputer where it works had it's cach cleared and files deleted including cookies.

Why on one computer can Guest access everything - even create a Post, which is Denied, yet on another, the result is Forbidden - You don't have permission to access /community/index.php on this server

Having problems with mod_security?

-[Unknown]

I doubted that the contents of the link refering to the Host is the problem if one user/comuter has no problem, but another one does.  But I did as instructed, with some minor tweaking to get at my .htaccess file which is not allowed, and it worked

Thanks and Thanks

INIC, trust me.  I wrote a lot of the software you're using, I may actually have some clue about what I'm talking about.

Forbidden - You don't have permission to access /community/index.php on this server

The message above comes from Apache.  SMF DOES NOT PRODUCE THAT MESSAGE.  If you are getting that message, something in Apache must be determining that the user is forbidden from accessing the content.

Very commonly this is caused by mod_security.  Please try the resolution suggested there.

I feel like the Lion in Wizard of Oz - I believe - I believe - I do believe :)

That's why I returned and edited my response.  My Host wouldn't let me change the file name so I accessed my Host via another means and edited the .htaccess online by adding the code you offered up, then saved it and it worked like a charm.

Now, can you make SMF print real $100 bills?

Thanks for the help - it's great.
