Steps prior to upgrading to 2.0?

Ok, before I take the plunge and upgrade from 1.1.13 to 2.0, I want to make sure I cover my bases with these steps:

1- Download via FTP my current entire forum directory.
2- Backup my database
3- Set forum to default theme
4- Deactivate Mods?

The biggest question I have is about turning off any mods I have.  Is that needed?  Or will the upgrade install take care of that?

Also, is it an easier (and maybe safer) process to just install a clean new SMF 2 forum in a new directory and import my old database and files to that area?

Thanks in advance.

Only 1 and 2 are needed to be done. The 3rd one is sometimes an advantage but the 4th point is just not needed.

Upgrade by overwriting the files and running upgrade.php will save you much time in my opinion than going through import and export.

So, if I have Mods installed right now such as Aeva, Simple Portal, that are the 1.1... versions, I can leave those in place and active while I do the upgrade?

Yes you can. The codes will be removed anyway. ;)

Thanks for the help....

Ok, so I'll end up just having to reinstall the 2.0 versions of those Mods once the upgrade is complete?

yes you need to reinstall the updated versions of all mods and themes, old themes for 1.1.1* will not work on 2.0

gisfreak

just add question bout mod and upgrading , let say that the mod will be overwritten and the codes will be removed, but what about the database itself ?, some mod make changes on database, I'm afraid it will result in error or incompatibility when upgrade to version 2.0 and reinstall mod.  :o

regards,
Me fail English? That's unpossible.

Illori

some mods when you uninstall take the database data as well but not all. so if you leave the database alone and go ahead with the upgrade, when you reinstall the mods they should use the existing data.
