I have a board that's still running 1.1 RC2.  It's so outdated because it's very large, and when I tried to update from 1.1 RC2 years ago, it made the update script choke up and break the board.  So I restored from a backup and never updated.  But now it's to the point where I have to update or start over.  There are like 1.3 million posts and the database is like 600MB.  Can this be done?

Hello there Wallydraigle.

Dont know where it get wrong when you tried to upgrade last time, but if you do everything as suggested it should all be fine.

Please read Upgrading SMF docs before doing anything, and of course make sure that you have fresh backup of all files and database.

You should download and upload to your server large upgrade pack, and just run upgrade.php file to start upgrade proccess.
Let us know if you need any information about upgrade proccess or some help about it.

Regards.

Yes, that can be done. I have upgraded a forum with 850.000 posts a few days ago and the upgrader handled it very nicely.

I just checked and the database is almost a full gig in size.  Any ideas how long it might take the updater to run through that?  Just as like a rough estimate?

At my friend 's forum it took less than an hour I think. At your forum that is a little bigger it might take a little longer. That is if no errors pop up during the process.

Dzonny

It may take for a while but we cant say exactly how long, as it also depends on your server strenght, speed, memory etc...

I might try to upgrade.  Right now I've set up a new SMF for people to post in, and I've still got the old one as an archive, but it would be nice to get it up to date because that's where everything is.

Dzonny

Let us know how that goes, and feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Regards.
