editing accept and rejection emails

I did some extensive searching before going through the trouble of registering here as a final result.
I would like to edit the outgoing rejection email. and other email settings. Apparently this seems to be an elusive issue as it was/is posted here a lot!

that link talks about a file called email.template.php
does not exist on my server

this link was good info as it allowed me to edit the pre-approval messages and a few other settings. (of course it took me a moment to realise there are TWO english files, utf-8 being the second. But that was easy.

And there is more (as you can tell - I did search first.)
The registration process works perfect, I just want to change what it says. both on the site end and the email end.

Where and what file can I edit? Should I check the sql? (I am pretty versed in php, so I dont mind wandering around in the source code if need be).

thanks for any closure on this issue.

ps
I use the latest version 1.1.14

emailtemplate.english.php is a file from 2.0, i believe the file you are looking for is login.english.php, which is the same file mentioned in the last link you posted, you must edit it with a text editor.

The phrase "Rejection" is no where to be found in that file. And thus i cannot edit. Can you point out the line number that particular message is located at?

iamriki

Let me clarify that
login.english-utf.php

does not have the following phrase(s):
"Registration Rejected"
"Regrettably, your application to join...."

since those phrases do not exist, it is logical to assume that this is not the correct file to edit.

Illori

you can do a search in the files and try to find it, that is what i would have to do.

I did that, comes up null.
its very weird that it processes that, but cannot find the file that has it.
although a futile effort, I checked the sql. not there (did not really expect it to be)

Illori

did you try searching for a word or a few words of the message? sometimes the text is broken up between several txt strings in the language files so searching for more then maybe 3 words at a time will come up with nothing found.

I went throught the majority of the files using the key word: REJECT it fails on REJ, so cant even get the whole word.. IM going to start on the core files next. I know its there because its working.

They really should make this a webmaster editable feature instead of hard coded

Illori

in the admin panel you can already edit the language strings in 2.0, it is a matter of finding where the one you want is.

YES but I am using 1.1.14, and with all the data I have I am a little nervous about switching over as it is not an upgrade but a fresh install.

Illori

no it is an upgrade, and you will not loose any data if you do a proper backup. Upgrading SMF

Operation was a success.
Can now edit files emailtemplate.english.php

thank you for your replies

edit:
I am not marking this as solved as it does not address the original 1.1.14 question for editing the rejection emails. That is still left unanswered. Upgrading is not the answer (if it was, then it is to be assumed that 1.1.14 is faulty and should not be used, which is not the case.

somewhere (most likely from a dev) there is a file for editing the 1.1.14 rejection emails. this post does not address that, I simply gave up and upgraded.
