2.0 slowing my shared server down

2.0 is running far slower than my 1.x version did.  Is there a guide to tweaks I can make to speed it up?  I am on a shared server on lunarpages.  Here is my server info:

Half of the time the servers are slow because off your Web Hosting Company, Best asking them if there having any problems on there end.

We have never had any SMF 2.0 server crashes or being slow while using 2.0.
First time Ive heard this really.

but we have encountered several denial of service issues do to this.
