cannot install mod on Windows

I have a standalone board running on Windows.  I want to install the Custom Board Sort mod, but when I apply it, it wants to ftp to the machine to change permissions of files.  Since all the files are fully editable, I'm confused with what it's trying to do.

Package Manager Options thinks 'Only the standard files are writable', but of course, on windows, they all are.  Do I need to change this - and if so, how?

you would need to ask your host to change the permissions to allow the server to write to all files on the server.

it's not on a windows server.  I have it installed on a standalone box


it looks like \forum\packages\temp has been created by some strange means

C:\forum\Packages>cd temp
Access is denied.

and I'm the system admin...

then you need to give the server access to write the files, which you have not done. check the permissions again.

ok, I've got further, I enabled the administrator account (even though I'm in the same group), switched to it, and the temp folder had disappeared.  So I re-created it, and can now access ok.  Now when I hit the "apply mod" button, I get a blank screen.

I've tried from firefox, IE, and the same from the administrator account.

sounds like the permissions on the package to be installed is not correct. this would be much easier on a linux server by the way.

Other packages install fine.. just this one won't.

check the permissions on the package file on the server, this can even happen on some linux servers. the permissions are not correct for your server so it will not install.

as I keep saying, this is windows.. there's a only a limited number of permissions you can set.  I even have UAC turned off and have granted all users full control over the files.

have you verified the permission on that specific file? either that is the problem or there is an issue with the package you are trying to install.

I've checked the permissions of all the files in the temp folder.  This is a popular mod.  I'm sure if it were broken for everyone, I'd find a hit.

if you check the properties of the file is it marked read-only? you have verified that the user group your webserver is running as, has permission to read & execute, read, write this file?

This is not a server. It's me as the user running the forum standalone.  It's Windows 7 32-bit, with UAC disabled, logged in as and Administrator account with access to everything.

for testing i run wamp server under windows 7 with no such problems. there is something up with how you are configuring your server.

have you installed this particular mod?  All of these have installed perfectly apart from the first one:
