Hi,

I've been trying to move a from from on hosting to another and have been facing the problem with blank pages on the new hosting. I don't know exactly what MODs are installed and version is 1.1.14.

What I've done:

  • Uploaded all files and installed DB. Settings file was incorrect by maintenance mode was shown as I defined in the file, all paths were wrong except the forum URL.
  • Corrected the Settings.php file to have the proper paths. Started getting the blank page on index.php
  • Used repair_settings.php script, all settings were correct except the paths to Themes, avatars other folders that don't show in the Settings file. The script corrected the wrong ones but the problem was not corrected.
  • Re-uploaded all files and recreated the DB to see if it was a permission problem or corrupted files, this time the Settings.php was correct from the start. Problem still persists
  • Read through all the topics I could find about "blank page", there are a lot of them :(
  • Confirmed that Subs.php file in source had the problematic code commented as I've read in https://support.polurnet.com/kb/kb_article.php?ref=5452-WUFC-6851
  • Used the repair_settings.php script again and confirmed that all settings were the same as the suggested ones.
  • Started this topic :(

Currently I'm finishing uploading some themes to the Themes folder, the default theme is already there. The symptoms are strange: there is no error in the logs, there is no PHP error show in the browser, browser receives a 200OK header but no data is received (there is no output to the browser).

Any suggestions? I would like to have the forum restored before attempting to upgrade to a newer version as this is a forum that had problems in the old hosting and I'm trying to restore it to a working state as fast as I can.

EDIT: forgot the link to the forum, may be useful, www.g7electronica.com/forum

After some digging around I found that the reloadSettings function in index.php was causing the problems, I don't yet know why but something in that function is blowing up the forum. Most likely some settings that are dependent on the old hosting configuration.

I'll be looking at the table to find if any of the settings is causing the problem.

My heart is bleeding, I want to punch someone...

After a few minutes commenting code in SMF's Load.php file I found that loading settings from the database was causing a segmentation fault :o, after a few more moments fiddling with the database I manage to determine that the values contained in the table smf_settings were to blame. I no know exactly what value was causing the problem, I don't know why but that's going to be a different problem.

For anyone curious enough, the following string that I copied from the smf_settings table was causing a segmentation fault:
Lainaa]Prezados clientes, a nossa webloja de produtos de electrónica fica em www.g7electronica.net

Setting that to an empty string shows the forum without problems, nice way to spend a day.
