changed url and now forum broke

and sorry if this problem is up some where allready.i have read tons of web pages and havent find soulusion.

so i had  forum address what endet  .com/simplemachinesforum/    i went to SMF settings and changed forum addres to .com and now when i go to addres .com i dont see nothing.but if i go  .com/simplemachinesforum/   i see the forum frist page put if i click on some topic i get white page and message  No input file specified.   i have tryd repair_settings   fail but that has not helped.

did you actually move the files to the new location or just change the url? the files need to be in place for the url to find them.

i only changed the url .so where i must move files and what files ?

you have to move the files [all the files and folders] to the website root if that is where you want it, then run repair_settings.php to set things up correctly.

sorry iam totaly newbie in that.i have forum hosting in godaddy and SMF is installed in godaddy hosting system.

you are best to ask your host to restore your backup so atleast your forum will work. if you dont know what you are doing you are best to not touch things when they work.

my forum name was  .com/simplemachineforum     and i wanted only .com    . and in smf settings was change forum adress .and that messed all things up.

that is because you did not move your files to the location just changing the url will not work.

the folder above where the files are is where you want them to be, ALL files in your current folder needs to be moved. but really if you dont know what you are doing you might cause more issues and since we dont have access to see what you are doing it will be hard to fix. and no i am not offering to do this for you.

i told you to move ALL the files up a folder. and i am being honest with you that if you dont know what you are doing you will break your forum further and be very hard to fix it.

First of all that  doesn't sound any good to me. When you want someone to help you, you need to be polite to them.


So, you were having your forum in folder named as "simplemachinesforum", so your forum address was
whatever.com/simplemachinesforum


and now you want to change it to
whatever.com


You just need to move all files and folders from "simplemachinesforum" into the directory in which "simplemachinesforum" is created. After that run repair_settings.php to fix the paths.
