How to display a section to all membergroups but only accessible to one?

I might just suck at searching but I couldn't find a thread related to this.  I have a section on my forum that is only visible to and accessible by a certain membergroup that I designate when I deem someone acceptable to enter.  I would like to make this section VISIBLE to all users and guests (ie all membergroups), even those who haven't registered, but just not ACCESSIBLE to them unless I make that member a part of this certain membergroup.

How would I go about doing this?  Is there a mod or option I'm not finding that allows this?

Thanks very much for your help!

you would be looking for a mod like http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1332 i dont know if it works with 2.0 you can check the mods support thread for further information.

Hmmm, while I don't believe that mod will necessarily do exactly what I want, it's something to try.  I've downloaded and installed the package on my forum (I'm using SMF 1.1.14) and it appears to be installed properly, but it's not working correctly.  I've listed and saved the board I don't want guests to be able to read but they are still able to view all the topics.

And in general, I think I'm looking for something with more control.  I'm not just looking to keep guests from accessing the board, but any membergroup that's not a particular membergroup I assign.

Illori

the current permission system does not allow for boards to be visible but not allow users to see the content of what is in the board a mod is needed.

Damn, this feature could be critical to my board being successful or failing.  Looks like I might have to pay up for a vBulletin forum.  Ah well.

Illori

if you configure that mod correctly it should do what you want, try posting in the mods support thread.

Another mod worth looking at is the view only board.
Thanks for the response!  This one actually did exactly what I wanted!  It allowed me to change the user permissions by membergroup in the "Board" section of the admin panel so that all but one membergroup is only able to see that the board exists, but if they try to click on it, it tells them they don't have permission.

Thanks so much!  This is a lifesaver!

And for everyone else who responded, thanks for the effort!  I do appreciate it very much!
