New Topic notifier

I am using SMF 2.0, Theme:  YaBB SE Next Gen.
I am unhappy with the way it displays the notifier that there is a new topic.

Mine simply appends the word "New" as text after the topic title.
I'd like it to have that little orange "New" button/icon image after the title instead.

I am not sure where I am going wrong, but I haven't been able to figure out how to make this modification.
I installed the mod "New Topic Button on Board Index" which should accomplish this, but so far, its not working.

I looked at the instructions for manually installing this, since it says that anyone not using Curve will have to modify it, but, it looks like all the modifications have been made already...  any advice?  The one exception is that it says to go into some managesettings file, but i dont seem to have that.... anyway, if anyone has advice, i'd sure be grateful.

It seems you are missing the new.gif file in the theme. Check if it's there. It's blue, not orange. When your browser can't find the file, it just shows you the text "new".

Its there, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything... what file calls on this image? (because I can't seem to figure that out either).

Do you have a link to your site? The file is probably damaged or something.
