Hope the headline is good enough to explain my problem.
The strange thing... - this is only by using IE - Chrome/Firefox is okay...., here's only a little thing* which should be fixed...

Maybe a good idea to link you to my mainforum (please see signature, "my forum").
As you can see - the main page (portal)  looks okay - also if you click on gallery or contact, etc - all is well - also in IE.
if you click now on forum (=board index) , the navigation bar is sorted wrong, also the font size of the categories/boards is bigger than in the other columns - this happens only in that layout. it is also not centered, I guess...
if you click on a categorie/or if you open a topic, everything is fine again, also the font size.

How do I get that fixed - which file do I have to modify - a stylesheet? which css is responsible for?

____
* means the font size  is bigger...

thanx in advanced...

Take it or leave it. They are the cause. It's actually the first warning causing your problem. Your file is not saves as UTF-8 without bom.

Your file is not saves as UTF-8 without bom.
you mean only the index.php? Or all of them (this includes also each php-file in languages)?
sorry for that question - I am nearly new to smf (started 4 month ago).

for every change on files directly on the webserver I use notepad++ at home to open it /save them back, on duty I use webftp.de service.
I've never seen that byte order mark in the files when I opened a file...

Thx for that hint -  I  will check it if "UTF-8 without BOM" is checked under "Format" in Notepad++

Just to be sure: you mean only "index.php" is not really saved as UTF-8 without BOM?

When i moved my testforum from testserver-domain to the mainserver, I just copied all files (ftp2ftp).

Well, I don't know what file is screwed. Probably index.php or the theme's index.template.php

noop - no success - as I said - the testforum looks normal. Independent of bom or ansi....

Seems like I've to install it new to my testboard by using a fresh db backup of the main forum and do again a new web move again...

found the bug - it was that mod "board notes" which destroyed the layout

http://epica-forum.de/index.php?action=forum still looks screwed to me. And with the same cause. IE 9 goes into quirks mode when visiting the site.
Press F12, then you can see in the dev window that opens. Click on the quirks mode, and select. IE9 standard, then the site looks ok. It's caused by the space in front of the doc. declaration. See attached image:

i reinstalled today morning my testforum by using a actual db backup of the main forum.
Now I found out that the mod "board notes" is responsible for the problem with the layout.

Akyhne - the cause is not really a problem - bom or ansi - it doesn't matter (see testforum)

but thx for the shot and the explanation - will give it it try

Addition: Thx for that hint! a temporary solution for all IE-users.
