I know on linux, "uninstalling" the forum would be done by deleting the folder your forum is in.

Can't imagine it would be much different on any other OS.

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Delete forum files from the filesystem and drop tables in the database.

Godmother

Err..I dont mean to sound dumb but I'm a complete novice and dont I go about this?
Where is the filesystem located and how do I drop the database?

Godmother if you go to File Manager in cpanel, then public_html you'll see a folder which is hopefully called forum - you need to delete that.

You can remove the databases by going back to the front page of cpanel and clicking on phpMyAdmin.

MrPhil

Did you install it in the first place with some sort of "one button installation", such as Fantastico, Softalicious, etc.? If so, they usually have a "one button" uninstaller. Given your skill level here, I would assume that you did use an installer of some sort, otherwise you would know how to do these things. You're not on some some sort of "free SMF" site, where they would have installed it for you, are you?

Godmother

No I'm not using a free smf site. My web host company actually did the installing for me, but I dont want to ask him this time around. I want to do it myself.

I got to the public_html page but I couldnt see the folder called forum. Guess it was given a different name. What can I do now? How do I identify the folder that needs to be deleted

Since your forum seems to be in the domain root, so directly in example.tld/index.php and not in example.tld/forum/index.php the files should be in public_html, and folders called attachments, avatars, packages, sources and themes, under the public_html folder.

Yea, I see the folders. So what do I do to these?

If you want to completely get rid of your installation, you delete all the folders I mentioned, and all files in them.

! From public_html though, only delete files that you know are part of SMF - There may be other files there as well.  !
( At least index.php, SSI.php, settings.php are SMF files and can be deleted. )
