river scorpion - I must say, perhaps its a cross border culture thing - but your posts do come across very rude.

I noticed that your install appears to be very new (based on your previous posts), and so my suggestion to you would be to sign up to charter membership and have an SMF team member install your forum for you.

At this point I have no intent to fork over fifty bucks for a charter membership when I haven't gotten any workable solutions here on this thread.

If you want to sell charter memberships, you gotta prove your abilities first in the public section, no questions asked.

Illori

we have told you what to do to fix your issue, you just have not shown us at all that you have even attempted to follow though with those fixes. if you cant do it then the team can do it for you.

Tony Reid

I'm not selling charter membership - but I can see that your not technically skilled in being able to perform what's being asked of you.

As Illori has stated, the repair settings file requires you to re-enter the correct settings and then apply.

I laid my attempts at follow through out for you on my 9th and 10th post down, to which you have never responded. I've given you various information. It's up to you to use your SMF savvy to intuitively deduce the actual problem and provide a remedy (like a doctor) when the online manual isn't adequate.

no it is not my JOB i am not paid to do anything here, so i dont have to try to solve your problems if you can not. and usually referring people to the documentation will help them solve their problems as people know how to read.

river scorpian, how are you?
I have some simple questions that I would appreciate you answering and thinking about carefully.

1.  Do you have any mods installed?
2.  How many users and posts roughly does your fourm have?
3.  Did you backup your site at anytime?

Hello Beard.

Okay.
Yeah, I've got five mods installed:
1. .htaccess
2. index.php
3. installed.list
4. smf patch 1.0.21...
5. smf patch 1..1.14...

I've got 32 members and about a couple hundred posts.

Yup. There is a folder above the five mods called backup. Inside that are .htaccess, index.php, 2011-2-11_before..., and 2011-06-14_before...

Wondering what got you to this point. Your site is rather unresponsive, but some parts are alive. What is the .htaccess mod? Have a link to that on this site? index.php isn't really a mod either. Sure, there are mods that affect that file, but it's usually a more descriptive mod. Nonetheless, this file works:

This doesn't:
http://www.stackemup.net/
Well, it does return this:
LainaaSorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.
Does your database still exist? Can you contact your host and see if the database server is up?

mashby, if you read carefully you notice that the site was working fine apart from the issue reported, the connection to database error occured after river scorpian  used repair_settings.php.  The database issue is now fixed and forum is now showing again.

Appreciated the responses from people.

As Beard has said, the issue was solved and the website is back up. Thanks again, Beard.
