Backed up my 1.1.14 SMF before installing SMF 2.0 (love it)......How do I get my 8,000 plus members list back from the 1.1.14 backup onto the newly installed 2.0?

TheLookBook

Yes I did an upgrade and had some problems so ended up running a full install that corrected the problems but downloaded the last backup file before running it.
Keep Your "Dreams" Alive!

Illori

you would need to do an upgrade if you want your old users/posts etc

TheLookBook

OK, I'm using 2.0 which upgrade do I need from here and I guess you are saying the upgrade will give back the info I'm seeking from my use of 1.1.14 before the 2.0 installation.

did you read the link provided above?

TheLookBook

Yes I read the link and followed instructions just now. See attachments, can't get to the forum now.

Error message changed. See attachment. Just see if we can get the forum back with all of the content. The feed is still active. Old Member list not important. Thanks for your support.

Did you manage to upgrade your database, or are you still running into problems?

The database upgraded some of the files after my hosting company did it for me because they found my server settings were set to SQL Lite and they change it to SQL 5.0 to handle the size of my forum but I had to manually install some of the content again. No problem, the fix cleaned things up. However, look at the screenshot for me. The mods listed loaded fine and are working but left this at the bottom of the page. Futhermore when I go for an upgrade on the forum I get a error when the software gets to database changes (calendar update) and it stops there. Running SMF version 2.0 which is Awsome and very stable. I want some other mods but it requires RC versions of SMF and I don't know how to upgrade to that.

Thanks for you response.

This could be a pretty tricky problem.
It might have been easier to fix the database before upgrading it.
Now, it seems you are part way through upgrading the database, and still need some fixes before continuing.

At the same time, it looks like there is something funny about your theme -- it is displaying the list of mods in a very unusual way.

I don't know how many of your problems are database-related, and how many are caused by problems with your files.

I have a little bit of bad news for you -- you cannot "upgrade" to an RC version. SMF 2.0 is the latest version, and doesn't provide any tools for going backward. On the other hand, some of the mods you want may be compatable anyway, though you may need to use the "emulate" option in the Package Manager.  Others won't install properly.

You are still having problems upgrading the database?

I know that SMF 1.1.14 only uses MySQL. So the change in settings must have happened after you installed SMF2.0.
And maybe it could cause problems. I am not certain.

One of my teammates suggests that you might also be missing language strings to do with one of your mods.

There could be more than one thing going on at the same time, making it a little difficult to figure anything out.

If you are still having database problems, I would suggest starting from scratch, with the 1.1.14 backup, and try the upgrade process again, but with the correct database settings.

Everything seems to be OK now. The package manager works fine and the database changes take place during mod installation. Starting from scratch is not an option, over 6 months of work in web design and the concept of the project is working. Outstanding response via emails and telephone. I agree that there could be one or more things happening and I suspect that. Personally there is belief that a file in my SMF directory shouldn't be there but just don't think my level of diagnoses will help find it and delete it. Good job getting over the problem.

So the only problem you are having now is on an admin page? That does narrow things down.
On the other hand -- it is all working. Ok to mark this one closed, or do you want help with the modsettings page?

Yes, provide support for the modsettings page. Now I understand the reason for the database error when trying to upgrade to a higher version of SMF. As you pointed out, the lastest version is already there. Modsettings fix and it's good to go. Thanks for your support.

Are you saying that Modsettings is now fixed, or that you are looking for a modsettings fix?

I do not think that the problem is caused by an extra file.  It might be caused by a missing file, or by a slight problem with a modification to the template file for the mod settings page.  One team member even suggests it could be due to missing language strings (either a missing file, or else missing entries to a file like Modsettings.english.php).

Whatever it is -- it is probably a small and subtle change.  Do you want to pursue this or leave well-enough alone?

I would rather have it fixed, but if you or the team members here can't see any future harm in the operation of the forum, leave it alone. Just looks like something is wrong everytime the panel is opened up. However, it would be nice to be educated in fixing it. Your call. Will respect your decision.

if you check your error log do you have any messages that look related to this?

TheLookBook

Will check it now and get back with you.

Here are snapshots of some error logs. The ones labled TheLookBook will be the administrator and you will see the guest. Checked the dates and TheLookBook ones are around the time the mods were installed then reinstalled. This info may help, when installing the ADK portal the others had to be uninstalled first. Then I reinstalled them and when I open modification settings, the reinstalls were there and working properly but with the extra at the bottom of the page as if it was trying to install two copies of the same mod or reading something from a old setting somewhere. Instead of blank check boxes, my old selections were still there in the new install of the mods.

You seem to have several different problems.  Do you have any mods installed?

1) Undefined variable modSettings in Themes/default/languages/index.german.php
It would seem to me that the function LoadLanguage (in Load.php) should be including this file, and that it manages this by calling function template_include, which has already gotten hold of the global $modSettings before it requires or evals the language file.
Either way, modSetting should be properly defined. Do you have any mods related to action=admin;area=languages?

2) Problems in the theme Yabb_SE_Next_Gen_SMF2, in Display.template.php, with undefined indexes -- href, title
in the body_above sub template.  Have a look in that file for 'title' and 'href'.  How are you attempting to use them?
Is this some kind of customization you have made to the template, or did some mod add this to the theme?

3) You have several users listed as "a Spam". Is there a mod related to referring to users as "a Spam"
------------
Edit: removed extra number in list.

Yes there is a mod: Stop Forum Spam. Will look in the file Display.template.php and get back with you.

I don't know much about Stop Forum Spam.
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1519
It is supposed to deny registration to users based on their IP address and/or Email, looking at the list at http://www.stopforumspam.com/

According to the author, it is normal for the mod to write some kind of message to the "log forum". I suppose this means "forum error log". So this would be normal, and not an indication of a problem, if those emails and IP adresses are on the list.

It's a great mod and helps to stop spammers at registration with a few other settings if they are listed. Just that I got the extra stuff shown in the snapshots inside the mods control panel. Seems titles were loaded twice but everything works.

Sounds  like maybe you had some trouble during installation. Did you contact the mod's author?

The only thing changed is that in order to install the ADK portal, some mods had to be uninstalled then reinstalled. No, I did not contact the mod author. Just looked in the Yabb_SE_Next_Gen_SMF2 theme, in Display.template.php and don't really know what to look for but the file is attached with this reply. Some things look double. I think a mod may have altered the template. Yet all things are working. Thanks for your support.
Keep Your "Dreams" Alive!

Angelina Belle

What stuff got doubled?

It looks like, in       if (!empty($modSettings['onlineEnable']) && !$message['member']['is_guest'])
         echo '
                        <li class="online">', $context['can_send_pm'] ? '<a href="' . $message['member']['online']['href'] . '" title="' . $message['member']['online']['label'] . '">' : '', '<img src="', $message['member']['online']['image_href'], '" alt="', $message['member']['online']['text'], '" />', $context['can_send_pm'] ? '</a>' : '', '&nbsp;', $message['member']['online']['text'], '</li>';

It is the 'href' which is not defined -- like something was left over in the template after you uninstalled a mod?

TheLookBook

Ok, your view of the file as SMF support shows nothing double. Maybe it looked that way at the very end of the file to me. However, if something was left behind how do I get rid of it or should it be left there?
Keep Your "Dreams" Alive!

Angelina Belle

If this is left over from a mod you no longer have ...
I would look at the mod's manual install instructions, to see what it installs in that part of the file, and manually undo that work, to set it as it was before the mod was there at all.
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. -- Hanlon's Razor

TheLookBook

The mod is still there, just uninstalled then reinstalled which needed to be done to install the ADK portal.
Keep Your "Dreams" Alive!

Angelina Belle

I may be confused about which part of the code is causing the problem. You are getting errors for lines 496 and 497 of Display.template.php, but the version of Display.template.php you attached doesn't seem to match this.
Code (lines 489-496) Select

if (!empty($options['display_quick_mod']) && $options['display_quick_mod'] == 1 && $message['can_remove'])
echo '
<li class="inline_mod_check" style="display: none;" id="in_topic_mod_check_', $message['id'], '"></li>';

if ($message['can_approve'] || $context['can_reply'] || $message['can_modify'] || $message['can_remove'] || $context['can_split'] || $context['can_restore_msg'])
echo '
</ul>';

So I am actually very lost, and I don't know how to help you.
