Spammers/Bots

Hi All,

I'm running SMF 1.1.14. In earlier versions although I had captcha enable, I had problems with bots registering on the forum,  so I have change captcha to reCAPTCHA (google captcha) and it worked just fine for the last couple years.

From the last few months, the bots are back, they register to the forum, and they post spam messages.

Do you think it's a bug from reCAPTCHA? It's a bug from SMF? Is anyone experiencing this problem too? Ideas how to solve it?

recaptcha and captcha have been broken by bots, you should try to find another form of security to keep them out.

What are the recommended options?

check the mod site for some of the anti-spam mods, other then those.

Yesterday I found what I think it's a good mod to solve this issue (Anti-Spam Verification Questions for SMF), the problem is that the mod was developed for SMF 1.1.7 so I think I would have to adapt it to 1.1.14.

That mod works fine with 1.1.14.   

We use it in conjunction with Stop Forum Spam and the results have been great.

The installation of the two should go without a hitch if you uninstall recaptcha before installing them.
