Best settings to gain best performance

Hello,

I have a linux vps server, running nginx with php and xcache. In the near future I'm gonna reset everything and build it from the start. (xen cpu, 512MB ram)
I wanted to know is there any "best" configuration for SMF2 to make it reach its best performance possible?

For example:
Should I install something like php-fpm?
Should I setup something other than xcache?
What SMF settings (like persistent db connection) should I tweak?

p.s. Maybe I could ask what settings SMF site is using atm?

First of all, SMF won't give you trouble unless your forum goes really large and active.
