hi all,

Today i switched my 2.0 smf forum to a diffrent domain name.

almost everything went well,
als the users work, all the messages moved well..

But if i try to register as a guest.. it wil not show the agreement
i tried the standard agreement, but i also tried the dutch hagreement (since my website is in dutch)

this is the website:
http://www.bushcraftvereniging.nl/

Hopefully someone can tell me how to put in my own custom agreement.

Can you check the permissions on the agreement.txt file in the root of your forum directory to make sure it can be read and make sure it actually exists?

fullmetalgirl

agreement txt is set to 666 (should this be 777 ?)
the dutch is set to 644

ziycon

644 should be fine, can you modify the agreement.txt file and make sure that there is actually text within the file?

fullmetalgirl

there is text inside.
i modified it.
but it stil doesnt work.

i get the error "not writable " at the screen to set the agreement...

Illori

then you need to check the file permissions on that file.

How do I chmod? / what is chmod?

or ask your host to check them for you.

i thought i already said the permissions of that file? (i did)
its 644 for dutch and 666 for english..
both are not working

777 is also not working

Illori

try 644 on it, or ask your host to verify it, it could be a combination of permissions and ownership that is causing the problem.

files on most servers should be 644 not 666 or 777

fullmetalgirl

i set both to 644 but it's stil not working.

what do you mean by:
it could be a combination of permissions and ownership?

i can edit the permission myself (just for the record)

Illori

then it is not an ownership issue, as if it is was you would not be able to change the permissions on the file.

in what way is it still not working?

fullmetalgirl

this is what's happening:
http://www.bushcraftvereniging.nl/forum/index.php?action=register

no text.. even though there IS text in the agreement txt file

Illori

the english version shows up just fine, so it is an issue with the file for your language not being there or the permissions incorrect for your server.

fullmetalgirl

maybe the name of the agreement language file is wrong?
the permission is set the same as the english.

how should the txt be called?

Illori

something like this agreement.greek-utf8.txt or agreement.greek.txt

fullmetalgirl

nope.. the name is correct...
just to make sure i added a utf8 aswell.. but stil i get nothing.

any suggestions on what to do now?

fullmetalgirl

on the previeus server i had my own custum agreement,
could this be bothering something inside the database?
*just a thought*

Illori

fullmetalgirl

i do not know what went wrong..

but i created a new text file (completyly fresh) and uploaded this..

it seems to work..
though i stil do not understand what went wrond before.
anyway sollution is = make a new file yourself.

thnx for the help :)

fullmetalgirl

spoke a bit to soon...

i found out what the problem is!
think it's a bug.

if i type normal text nothing is wrong..
if i typ "ö" it shows NO agreement...

if "ö" is in the text or when ö is the only text.. it stops showing the agreement.
if i have this problem, probably others have it to?

ziycon

Try putting the the character codes for the special characters instead of just typing in the letter and see if that works.
