Editing the copyright in the footer

I've been told that I cannot legally even touch the copyright in the SMF footer without written permission so I'm asking for that permission here. I do not want to remove or change the SMF copyright text. What I want to do is to edit the layout and style so that it looks nicer. Right now as I am using a custom theme + tinyportal + smf the result is a really fat and ugly looking copyright statement. All I want to do is alter text style and placement so that it will look cleaner and nicer at the bottom of my site. All copyright notices will remain intact and readable, just restyled.

open index.css from your main style and edit the #footer section

This is not what I need, I need to edit the actual text placement which requires permission to let me dig around in theme_copyright()

No you dont. You just need to edit its index.css as mentioned i.e. in the footer section and that is it.

Yes I do. Modifying the CSS will not do what I require. I have already tested it with firebug and can confirm 100% that I need to edit the actual HTML. Allow me to explain. Currently it looks like this:

as long as the text is still the same you can move it wherever you want.

While SMF 2.0 allows removal or modification of copyright, I dont think it is wise to guide any members to achieve that openly.

Thank you for such a prompt response. I will keep the copyright fully intact, I would not wish to remove it anyhow. You guys do great work and it would be wrong of me to use your work and not attribute you properly.
