I don't know how to fix it. The more I try the worse it gets.
I have backed things up about every week. I'm not really sure how to use them, but backed them up anyway. The "important and complete both.
I was trying to remove everything except the smf board. What I though was a user was a data-base and when I deleted it the board went with it. The database is still there I think. I'm just not sure how to access it to get it back up. It did say the database could not be deleted.
Members were having lots of problems getting in, and I was trying to re-install Joomla, then I really messed stuff up..

Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

I am running Windows XP and Windows 8, I think it's 8. Using 1.1.4
I looked alot over you FAQ and got more confused than I was before, and I've never done the FTP thing before. I'm afraid of the administrator panel. Seem's like I always mess something up everytime I get in there.
I've also though maybe I'm not even looking at the right database. My entire site went down.
What password do I use in phpAdmin to log-in? I tried bunch'es of them but it never would open so I could try and use the repair tool.
Guess I'm not real smart doing this and need really detailed step by step kind of info to do it.
Thanks Everyone !!

hi
where was your smf forum hosted on a window machine or on a  webserver?
I think smf is not able to find db you would need to keep backup safe and import it back

I think it is done through phpadmin - database - import function

First thing is don't be frightend of the Admin section.

Worst case scenario is you delete all the SMF files  from your website and transfer up a new set from SMF.  maybe even the 2.0 Gold one!

FTP is easy peasy.  I use the http://ftp-surfer.en.softonic.com/  once you have set it up with your hosting passwords and username  on your PC it will enable you to see all the files uploaded to your website.  You can then delete them from the server or transfer new files by click and drag from your desktop to the FTP surfer window.

When you have re loaded SMF files you can (if you have backed up the database scary stuff) import the saved backup mysql database from your PC.

Re phpadmin login.  Your web host should have given you the username and password for this.  I got mine in an email and printed a paper copy!  Make sure you select the exact database they have given you from the drop down list in myphpadmin.

Good luck mate.

 Thank you topman,
I'll for sure try the FTP thing and appriciate your advice.
As far as the other problem it has been corrected. It was found to be a server problem and the more I tried to fix it, the worse it became until the entire site crashed.

Web hosts are ofent not that helpful when you ahve a problem.

I am pleased I have been able to help you, in however small way.
I find on here that you either get useful help or none at all.  I think it is only if you actually know quite a bit any help is useful.
