Impossible upgrade?

I run 1.1.14.

I want to migrate - er - upgrade to the 2.0 branch

I have more than 15 mods installed.  ALL manually installed without the original mod files for uninstalling them!

The forum is extremely popular and running well at this time....   so I don't want to try a the Large Upgrade on a large, live site.

My forum is at my document root.  It's not in another directory.  i.e.,   It's at forum.mysite.com not www.mysite.com/forum

I would like to copy my existing MySQL database to a new database....   install 2.0 in a new directory, point the 2.0 forum to the cloned database, and tweak things there, before doing the Large Upgrade.

When I tried doing that - using a fresh 1.1.14 install, all my directory settings - and most likely other settings are messed up because some settings, like Forum URL, SMF Directory, Sources Directory, Attachments and Avatar Directories are stored in the database. (see attachment)

So, how do I set up a new forum in a new directory, clone my existing database and get that new forum to work with it....   most efficiently.

Thanks.

Happily using a heavily modified 1.1.16 version of SMF!

SOLD my website - thanks it was a good run - they converted to vbadvanced. (and screwed it up good!)

If you clone your forum, as-is, then upgrade it, you might have a chance.

An SMF v2 database simply won't work with a v1.1.14 installation.

Don't forget, though, that some of the files (Like Settings.php) will point to the old db. So, you'll have to change that stuff.

and update your paths if you are using a different url. What is repair_settings.php?
