I can edit html so/so... Anything else no way...

Is the footer done in HTML? Where?
The plan is to add in text & a graphic...

the footer is located in your theme's index.template, look for <div id="footer_section">  or just footer
Oh, wouldn't it be great if I *was* crazy? ...then the world would be okay

Another option to consider is the Global Headers and Footers mod which gives you some more flexibility in the footer area as well as the header area. What are you trying to accomplish?

as others have said the global headers andfooters mod does the job simply and you can add both text andimages with it.
