You people that keep asking for this or that, stop it. When Simple machines first came out I had hoped it would be simple. Too bad.

By simple what do you mean? Are you expecting it to be simpler than YaBBSE is? Or do you mean you want it to be the same as YaBBSE is now?

In my opinion Yabbse is too bloated. The more 'features' you have the more complex the software the greater the possibility for bugs and the slower the board runs. The only thing a board has to do is display messages and get new ones. The rest should not be included in the core of the software.

Feature Creep has been one of my biggest rants since I started programming in 85. I can remember when you had 100k to run a program in. Your code had to be tight and focused. Your code had to follow the Kentucky Fried Chicken theory - do one thing and do it well.

That's basically what I'm saying, quit adding stuff that doesn't contribute to the core of the board.

"merge"
so who are you, the post police? You paid fifty bucks to preview the software, not annoy me with one more useless post. :)

If you want a board like that:
YaBBLE

Chris Cromer

Well YaBBSE/SMF are too bloated for me... and YaBBLE is too simplistic. There needs to be a sort of inbetween. ;)

I totally agree with you! If you add to much features, the board will be so crappy (I can't describe it more) (in dutch we say 'Quitsch' or something like that. I can't translate it)

After a clean release, all those requests can be developed as a mod... And everybody is happy :D

Sigh...

Chris Cromer

Yeah, people can make all the suggestions they want. Doesn't mean they will be in the release.

The LDs and PMs look at what is requested and decide if it should be in the initial release not the requestees.

IMHO, adding more features isn't always a bad thing as long as they enhance and do not detract from the core and are implemented in such as manner as to make sense and be straightforward to use.

I think SMF is progressing just fine, although we SHOULD stop asking for features for now so they can hurry up and get the first release finished :D

Keep asking for features to be added and it will just delay the whole thing ::)

I forgot to add that I like more features aswell... so I agree with David too but... lets put new features on hold for now (unless it absolutly must be added ;))

Compuart

Yabb SE is imo the perfect version for those who prefer a limited amount of features, just like some people still prefer windows 3.1 over XP. Imo improving a product can only be done by adding features. Features that add value and  don't harm performance or security or usability  make the software better.
