Hi, I am upgrading to SMF 2.0 but have been relying on the "View Only Boards" mod for years - but it has not been updated for 2.0 gold and says it will have failures if i try to install it.

I need to know if SMF 2.0 can do this or if there is another mod that can do this:
- Let certain member groups only see the titles of the topics but not be allowed to view the posts in the topics.

The reason this is so useful is for subscription sites where you want potential customers to see how active your forum is by seeing all of the Topic titles. But if they actually click on the topic you do not want them to see the posts content - because it's subscription based.

Any help would be appreciated.

If a previous version is 2.0RCx go in  ACP>Package Manager, below, at the end choose Advanced where you can do  mod emulate...  read  explanation:
"Sometimes packages are locked to early versions of SMF but remain compatible with a newer version. Here you can choose to "emulate" a different SMF version within the package manager. "

Thanks But i tried emulating
"SMF 2.0 Beta 4"
"2.0 Beta 4"

and after pressing the install button it still says there will be lots of failures.

It looks like the mod has not been updated since January 21, 2009 so there def could be problems.

OK,I see that parse function shows that it's possible install manually and at the end execute the query in database.

What do you mean - edit the files manually? There's a lot of editing and not sure if i trust myself to do it. But the biggest thing is i'm not sure what you mean by execute the query in the database.
I see the DB_2_x.php file but not sure what to do with it.

Well I gave it a shot. There's a lot of changed code in the SMF theme and source code though. So wasn't 100% sure how to replace some of the code. Functionality seemed fine after my changes but ended up getting many errors in the error log. So something's obviously not fixed right.
