I am also having a problem with SMF 1.1.14.

I have not transferred the attachments or Avatar directories with Mozilla so this article is probably not relevant to my situation: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=374178.0

Mods installed are as follows:

Mod Name    Version
1.    IP-Address Tracer    1.0
2.    SMF 1.0.19 / 1.1.11 Update    1.0
3.    AJAX Recent Topics    1.1
4.    SMF 1.0.20 / 1.1.12 Update    1.0
6.    Custom Tab       1.2
7.    DisableTemplateEval    1.2
8.    Version Emulate Dropdown    1.1
9.    SMF 1.1.14 Update    1.0
10.    Anti-Spam Verification Questions    1.02
11.    Anti-Bot Registration Puzzles    1.2.0.1

I HAVE run the repair_settings.php and checked that file READ permissions are enabled.

What I've found is this:

+When I go to the Admin console and look in Attachments and Avatars here's what happens..

- Attachments tab settings show the correct Attachment directory
- Avatar directory settings are correct
- When I go to Browse Files and click on an image file, I receive the following message in the Browser: The image "http://www.cvmaflorida.org/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=281.0;id=127;image" cannot be displayed because it contains errors."

+ When I browse to a forum message that contains an attached image file and click on that image file, I receive the following error message in the browser: "The image "file:///C:/DOCUME~1/userLOCALS~1/Temp/EZ%20&%20TAZ%20RYDER%20MORPHED-1.jpg" cannot be displayed because it contains errors."

+  I've changed the entire forum to the Default Theme - Core and there was no apparent effect on this problem.

+ Avatars will not show up in the messages and I can't seem to get them to display within "Attachments and Avatars"- "Browse" either.  It's the same with "Thumbnails"

+ I've run all of the options under Forum Maintenance - General Maintenance with no apparent effect on this issue.

+ Funny thing, pdf, doc and txt attachments all open fine in both the original message AND within Brows Files – Attachments.

- It seems that this issue is with mostly graphic files.  (I'm also having problem with MS Word Files but haven't proven it's the forum yet) I have confirmed it happens with jpg, gif and png.  I haven't tested any other type of graphics.  By the way, all three of those formats ARE authorized as attachments.

Any clue on how to fix this would be appreciated.

What did you use to transfer the files to your server? It does sound like the images got transferred in ASCII format instead of in BINARY format.

I didn't transfer anything.  The board was working fine and then one day, following the 1.1.14 update, a user asked me why the attachments and Avatars weren't working.  It was then that I started troubleshooting.

Even when I create a NEW message with a graphic attachment, I get the same error when I try to view it.

Illori

have you asked your host if there have been any recent server changes?

tombstone66

I have not.  I wouldn't even know how to phrase that question to be honest.  Only the graphic files, avatars and now I notice my MS word file attachments don't work.  Other files like PDF attachments are in tact.  Would you guess this is a database issue?  I can't pinpoint exactly when the issue occurred.  Sometime in the last 30 days I would guess.

Remember, even if I attach a graphic file now, in a new message, I STILL get the same error result.

Thanks for any input that you can provide.

have you asked your host if there

Illori

this would be an issue with the file system not the database, cant hurt to ask your host if there have been any recent changes.

tombstone66

I posed the question to the the Host and the reply was as follows:

LainaaIt does not appear as if there have been any migrations or server changes with your hosting account.  As previously mentioned, you may wish to restore from a backup or attempt to fix any corrupt data.  If you have further details which may support our troubleshooting, you may let us know, however there do not seem to be any recent changes which would have caused this issue.

Please let us know if we can further assist you.

Illori

find a new host they are one of the worst oversold hosts you could have.

tombstone66

Yea I know.  I was waiting until my contract ran out.  Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to fix my issue though.

I created an alternate attachment directory and made the necessary changes to the Attachments line in admin, pointing it to the new directory.  I created a new message with attachments and still had the same problem.

Illori

sounds like an issue with the server, which would be corrected if you move to a better host.

tombstone66

I appreciate your help, really I do however a "better host" is hardly quantifiable or logical. While I agree that GoDaddy isn't the best choice in hosts, my forum HAS worked for over two years.  Something changed recently that is causing the problem.  What that "something" is, I don't know but moving to a "better host" isn't really a viable or logical solution.  I'm sure there is a solution for this issue, I just need to find out what it is.

Thanks again for your help.  I realize that you do this on a volunteer basis and as I have seen, you've helped lots of people, probably with very little return on your investment.

Thanks for all that you do for the SMF community.

Moved my board to an alternate domain with a different host and still having the same problem.  Attachments are corrupted.

Even when I upload new attachments, they are corrupted.

Moved my board in accordance with this: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=435116.msg3052582#msg3052582

Illori

next i can suggest is upload a fresh set of files and see if that helps any.

tombstone66

When you say "fresh set" what do you mean?  Could you point to a thread with some instructions please?

I know it probably sounds like a simple task but wouldn't that fresh set of files need to include updates?  I'm not sure I understand.

Thanks

Illori

upload the files in the large upgrade package to your server overriding all the existing files

tombstone66

Sorry but I only see a Large Upgrade Package for the SMF 2.0.  Can you direct me please?

Thanks
