Hello,

Will appreciate any help.

Briefly here is my story. My page was using smf 1.1.14 and I wanted to upgrade to the latest SMF 2.0 RC because I read that this version is much better than SMF versions 1.1.x.
I downloded SMF 2.0 RC5 Large update and Update the forum as described in the instructions. With a few mistakes regarding old language package and difference in the name of the url and ftp server the process went well. Unfortunately, after that the boards weren't active. The site responses that I should contact the ftp server admin for fixing that problem. I have made a full backup before making the update. (All files from the ftp server are on my PC.) So I decided that would be better to recover old files I have made backup than contacting server admin for fixing the problem. I like SMF 1.1.14 and I don't like changing what was working very good. (I knew it I shouldn't do that!!!  :-\)

Unfortunately, after a copied back the files form the backup the site is having this response:

: Unknown column 'a.attachmentType' in 'field list'

Hereyou can see it yourself:
http://www.garminclub.bg/

I don't have any idea how to fix that.

Thanks for any help,

kat

RC5?

RC="Release candidate".

SMF v2 has gone Final, now.

Anyway, it's no use copying the v1.1.14 files over, without restoring the v1.1.14 database, too.

The databases are different.

D.Dimov

-> RC5?

Yes, I meant 2.0. Not 2.0 RC. I downloaded it from here just before a few hours:
http://download.simplemachines.org/

-> Anyway, it's no use copying the v1.1.14 files over, without restoring the v1.1.14 database, too. The databases are different.

Sounds discouraging. So how to proceed from now on?

zfs-network

even before i joined simplemachines.org,i have used smf.
one thing i learned is exactly what happened to you.of cource, the new smf 2.0 has a different structure than 1.x and therefor uses a different db.
you did backup your database before doing that, right?
'cause once i installed some thing and it didn't work.after that i always backup before adding new stuff.(right now what i didn't count on was the logout button dissapearing.still trying to fix it  :P )
if you backed up your database, try restoring the backup.phpmyadmin makes that so easy!!

D.Dimov

-> you did backup your database before doing that, right?
Nope. I don't remember reading that in the instructions when installing SMF 2.0.

-> have you run the upgrade.php script?

I don't. I have deleted it. I read that it is better this file to be deleted because some could start my forum in maintenance mode.

Guys, someone knows how to proceed from now on? What to do next? Should I contact my server administrator? If I try to install SMF 2.0 again is that going to help?

Cheers,

kat

It might pay you to get the large upgrade, dearchive it, and upload everything, except upgrade.php, overwriting what you have, now.

Many thanks!!! That seem to work. A blink of hope :) Except I get this error when entering a board:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

This was the reason I wanted back my SMF 1.1.4.

Now I should contact server administrator right?

Cheers,

Illori

or ask them if there are any messages in the server error log that would help us to figure out the error.

@ Illori

Thanks! I already called them. I am waiting for their answer.

Problem solved! It was coming from the Babylon theme which seems had some problems after too many mods.

Many Thanks,
DD
