Problem with personnel messages

Hi all,

maybe anyone of you can help me with a problem I'm experiencing since a few days now.

I have a problem with the personnel message function in my forum for some of the users.

I'm using SMF1.1.14,
hxxp:tauchforum.catfish-divers.com [nonactive]

Since a few days some users only get a "500-internal server error" message when trying to access their personnel messages. It doesn't happen to all users, nor can I relate it to specific usergroups, browsers etc.

I tried it with my account (admin) and it works perfectly. I logged out and logged in with my wifes accounts (also admin) and I get the error message.

Their are no DB errors and no other problems within the forum.

If anyone has an idea what might be wrong I would appreciate it.

Txs...

The only thing I've installed in the last weeks (about two weeks ago) was smf 1.1.14.

You have to check the error log, it will show more information about that error 500 (wich file, line, etc)

Txs. for your quick answer.

I currently turned off the general error messages to safe DB space. I will turn it back on for debugging.

a 500 error would be server side, so you would need to check the server error log not the smf error log.

Yup, at your cpanel (or the one your host is using)... some servers create files like error_log, look for it through ftp
(or ask your server support for ways to access that information)

Hi all,

txs. for your ideas.

I've checked the server logs. There's no error.log, just regular mail/ftp/etc logs.
No problem is logged there.

Let's see if 1&1 can provide me with the error logs.

One thing I'm still wondering about is the following...
If it's a server instead of a smf problem, why do I get an error if I'm logged in as user B and don't get it if i'm logged in as user A, although i'm sitting at the same PC, same ip-address etc.? The server doesn't know which user is sending the request.

that would be your problem you have an oversold host, they will not help you until you change hosts
