yep (the title)

i read how to change the favicon, and i did it, the black old favicon of simplemachines went, but the google chrome default one came, look:

The site is: sglegendaryhacks.com

zzpoointzz

i placed it in the public directory, and in the theme folder (www.ico (?))

ApplianceJunk

The file should be called favicon.ico and placed in public_html

How did you create the favicon.ico? What size is it?

Can you attach a copy of the favicon.ico for us to see what you are trying to use?

this is the image... i have placed it even in th public html

http://www.mediafire.com/?ftid17bblbb2cp6

When I try to view it there it says file not found.

Edited to add: I'm able to download it and see it, but it's not named favicon.ico

ApplianceJunk

Try to attach it here as I just did with my favicon.ico file.

You realize it needs to be called favicon and it needs to be a .ico file?

zzpoointzz

yep... wen i put it in the public i rename it ...! surre!!

anyway aatachment (not renamed)

ApplianceJunk

I have always made my favicons 16x16, not sure if that would make any difference.

Other then the size guess I'm out of idea's.

MrPhil

Isn't the limit 32x32, and 16x16 is the usual size?

I have seen them 32x32, not sure if that is the limit or not. In any case zzpoointzz has posted a .ico that is 64x64.

zzpoointzz

64 48 and 32 16 are all fine... but i will try doing it a 32

kat

16x16 is the most common.

You won't see any detail, even if you make it bigger.

zzpoointzz

could some one make it 16x16, because wen i conver it to an ico it goes back to 64x64, and anyway if i try to resise the ico (that i converted previusly) pain would just make me save it in bmp or jpeg...

zzpoointzz

not working :(.... thats why i made this thrread .... strangely not working.. deleted cookies and cache

kat

You put it in the same place as the file Settings.php?

MrPhil

A browser is by default going to ask for /favicon.ico unless you use a <link> tag to specify another location, name, and/or filetype. Plus, it may take a while for a given browser to notice a new or changed favicon.ico file, and you may even have to clear cache to prod the browser into asking for it again. Different browsers behave in different ways.
