I don't get a 404 error myself
I get an SMF page with the following error message using Firefox -

An Error Has Occurred!
The user whose profile you are trying to view does not exist. 

perhaps it is a browser issue?

As far as I know, smf uses     ?action=something
What is that ?area=forumprofile

Generally a user profile looks like this : http://japantown.awardspace.com/messageboard/index.php?action=profile;u=1104

Or may be I am missing something.. ? Where is the similar page on simplemachines.org ?

sounds like the op is using a url rewriting mod which has not been updated to the new location of the forum when it was moved. so they should post in the mods support thread for further help.

No, I never use any mods, and I am using the latest version of Firefox.

"forumprofile" is one of the pages to which only the member and those allowed to modify member groups can see. So, it's natural that we can't access that page.

Any errors in the error log?

Can you access other pages in a member's profile?
