There's a mod. But, it's not compatible with v2.x, I'm afraid.

There seem to be quite a few javascript chess games, though.

Maybe you could use one of those?

If you install it under emulation, there's a very slim chance it'll work.

Sure!

When you go to the mod (Package) install page, you'll see "Advanced".

Click that and set emulation for the version of SMF that you're using.

When you backup, don't forget the database, will you?
