I installed the CurveMultiColor theme.  Is there a way to get rid of the BIG "CurveMultiColor" letters in the top right corner?  Other than that the theme is awesome.

Thanks in advance

kat

Ideally, theme questions should be posted in the theme's support topic, Chad.

However, with this one, find the file smflogo.png in the theme's "images" directory and replace that image with one of your own.

If you want no image, might I suggest a blank, transparent PNG?

chadf

where do you go to do that?  I found the image under modify theme, but you can't do anything to it in there.  It just shows a list of the images, but no option to delete or change.

kat

Ah...

You need FTP. Or, if you're feeling masochistic, your site's CPanel and File Manager.

FTP: http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/FTP_-_How_do_I_use_FTP

chadf

Where do you find the cpanel, and the file manager?  I am new to this, so I don't really know what I'm doing.

Illori

the cpanel or similar should be provided by your host, it is where you can manage your site, access phpmyadmin and setup your databases

chadf

I am confused  I don't know what any of this stuff means.

chadf

Ok.  I downloaded curve multi color theme, then I uncompressed the file, and deleted the logo.  Then I compressed the files again.  Then I Installed the theme to my website, and it came out horrible.  It was just a bunch of text going down the leftside of the screen.  What did I do wrong?

You can do that in the stylesheet, actually. Go to Admin>Configuration>Current Theme and select to edit the index.css stylesheet. Look for something pretty far down into the page of code that looks like this:

/* float these items to the right */
#siteslogan, img#smflogo
{
   margin: 0;
   padding: 0;
   float: right;
   line-height: 3em;

...and then add the line

display: none;

If he can't do FTP, I doubt he's gonna be able to cope with that, Clara. :(

You don't want to delete the image, Chad. You want to replace it with another one.

I would offer to do it, for you.

But, if you can't access FTP yourself, letting me have the login details is not gonna happen, is it?

As Illori said, you get the details for your CPanel and stuff from your host.

If you don't know FTP, though, I'm curious as to how you installed SMF in the first place...

As a person who got stuck with an SMF board when the original installer disappeared, I considered FTP access to possibly be an issue--and you don't need FTP access to change the style sheet. Bottom line is that there are different options to solve this problem, depending on the situation and the style sheet option hadn't been mentioned. The biggest difficulty in the style sheet option is finding where that line of code is, as it's fairly deep within index.css. But after one's found the line, the fix is easy.

Of course, you're right!

I forgot that you can do it from within SMF!

Sorry 'bout that! :)

I found the code and entered what you said but the logo is still there.  Did I place it at the wrong spot?

chadf

also after that

it has one of these } and under that it has h3, h4

I vaguely recall that the smflogo is mentioned in 2 different sections in index.css and you might have gotten the second one (not sure).  I'll have to re-read the thing and see if I can give you a more specific thing to look for besides what I gave you.

Okay---You're first gonna look for the section of the document titled this:

Lainaa/* Styles for the general looks for the Curve theme.*/
...line 1330 -ish.

Following that title there's

Lainaa
/* the framing graphics */
...
/* the content section */

....and then comes the
Lainaa/* the main title, always stay at 45 pixels in height! */
section that immediately precedes the part you're looking to modify, which, after modification, should look like this:

/* the main title, always stay at 45 pixels in height! */
h1.forumtitle
{
line-height: 45px;
font-size: 1.8em;
font-family: Geneva, verdana, sans-serif;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
float: left;
}
/* float these items to the right */
#siteslogan, img#smflogo
{
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
float: right;
line-height: 3em;
display: none;
}
h3, h4
{
padding-bottom: 3px;
}

What follows this section should be:

/* the upshrink image needs some tweaking */
img#upshrink
{
float: right;
margin: 1em;
}
/* ..so does the SMF logo */
img#smflogo
{
margin-left: 1em;
}
/* the upper_section, float the two each way */

If you're still seeing the logo after you modify your index.css, don't be surprised. You need to refresh to see changes (or empty your cache via the Admin > Maintenance>Routine Tasks section. And sometimes refreshing once isn't enough. Twice usually gets it. or F5. Depending on your hosting service, there may be a server delay involved as well.

chadf

Ok..  I did it.  I empty the cache, tried F5, and refreshed.  The logo is still there.  I guess I will wait and see if there is a delay.  It has been 15 minutes.  Is that too long?

Also it says the smflogo.  My logo is a curvmulticolor logo.  Are they both called the same thing in the code?  It is not the logo that says Simple Machine Forums.

Thank you for all of your help

Well, I'm not familiar specifically with the CurveMultiColor Theme; I just know how Curve works. It's starting to sound like that particular theme seriously deviated from Curve standard and it's time to ask the person who developed the thing. And now you've gotten me very curious as to how deviant the code really is in that thing.  I'm going to download that had take a closer look at the code pages.

=====================

I did a variety of searches for it in the Themes section and it's not come up. Who's the author? Where did you get it? ...and after this, you might reconsider any interest in non-standard themes, ha. Any one of the suggestions in this thread should have worked the first time for a standard theme.

And instead of getting the sysgods riled, how 'bout we take this conversation to PM.

Okay, I found out what the deal is with this particular theme, folks--it doesn't use index.css at all, so altering that file won't get you anything.  It has a list of variant css files and you have to make the    display: none;  modification to ALL of those files before the logo goes away...OR...simply replace the logo with a completely transparent image with the filename of smflogo.png.  The latter option appears to be the simpler solution to this problem.

But I found a serious bug with it--once you install it, you're stuck with it. When you uninstall it, you're stuck in Curve Default regardless of the other themes you've installed or try to run. O_O

Grumpy's theme broke my board.
