Hello..

I recently changed from phpBB forums to SMF forums, however I didn't install it myself, I got somebody else to do it for me. I have lost my posts and members (which is not a concern at the moment), as I kee getting white screens blank when I load up the page, when I sign in, when I log out, and when I move between categories..

It's a white blank screen and I have to refresh the page about 5 or 6 times before I can get into the page.. Any help please?

The person who installed SMF for me, is no help, he says it's fine, but it's not at all!!

check it out and see for yourself: hxxp:theshoppingforum.co.uk [nonactive]

I think you have a paths problem.

http://theshoppingforum.co.uk takes me to a blank page.

However, http://www.theshoppingforum.co.uk takes me to your forum.

Yet, all the links go to http://theshoppingforum.co.uk

Seems you're losing the "www.", for some reason.

Tried this?

http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Repair_settings.php

Welcome to the ol' forum, Chris!

Welcome to SMF! :)

Did you copy over your posts and topics from the phpbb board to SMF or is it a new install and the posts went missing?
Can you tell us if SMF is pointing to the correct database, you can check the database Settings.php by going to the root directory where SMF is, its the directory where the agreement.txt & SSI.php exist.

Also if you copied over your data from phpbb to SMF can you tell us how you went about doing this?

Have you tried using http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Repair_settings.php?

kat

Although, with some oddness, the reverse seems to be the case now.

Weirdness personified.

That tool should cure it, though.

Illori

maybe worth talking to your host and seeing what they suggest about this issue?

christheshoppingforum

Thanks! It's a strange one, because as I said I didn't install the forum, as I don't understand my CPanel :P

I am looking at the links you provided!

Everything was wiped from the old forum as it was a new install with SMF, so I don't have any of the threads from my previous phpBB forum.

christheshoppingforum

I have no idea what I'm doing :\ I'm in my cpanel, but I just don't understand it one bit (hense why I got somebody else to install it for me :p)

I don't understand the repair settings php link you sent me either :\

I found the settings.php where the agreement.txt is etc etc.....

I 'view'ed it but I don't know if the database is the correct one.......

kat

That Repair settings thing's a doddle, mate.

Download the file.

Upload it to the root of your forum (Where Settings.php is).

Then, point your browser to http://theshoppingforum.co.uk/Repair_settings.php

thanks for that k
i installed the forum for chris i also installed 2 other forums on different hosting and the other 2 have had no problems at all this is also the 1st time in using smf over the years i have ever seen this
it was a complete clean install from scratch through softlicious direct in cpanel
i have downloaded the file you suggested and uploaded it to the root directory where settings.php is and im getting  The requested URL /Repair_settings.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Illori

the file name is repair_settings.php not Repair_settings.php so it is possible you have a linux server and it cant find the file as it is case sensitive so try again with lower case r.

FieryWebServices

thanks for that Illori  tried it with the lower case and now have it connected

kat

Yep. Apologies, for that.

On the net, case IS important.
