I just want to know, if a MOD or tip & trick can be made, that detects when a user is viewing the site on a particular browser ....  particularly Internet Explorer.   And, if the site does detect they're using Internet Exploror, a message ( that can be edited via admin panel) pops up in a window saying something like ...

"Internet Explorer is an outdated piece of junk.  For better forum viewing experience please try another web browser, such as; Opera, FireFox, Chrome, etc"

Not those exact words, but you get the idea.  :)

I get so many members reporting forum errors, and its always because they're using IE.

That's not what he's asking for though.  He wants to display a message to users based on the browser they are using.

SMF already detects several browsers, if you want to target IE specifically:

global $context;

if ($context['browser']['is_ie'])
   echo 'you\'re using IE, shame on you.';

Sources/Load.php:function detectBrowser()

also:

can be adapted to detect all IE version and not just IE6
Oh, wouldn't it be great if I *was* crazy? ...then the world would be okay

Amazing what a quick search for "Browser" turns-up, innit? ;)

I did search because the search pulled up with another MOD like it from smf1, and a couple relating to browsing pics or something.   I even added that one you linked to last night to test around with.  and I did kinda like it so it does show me what browser a member uses so if they do post a problem, that's one less question I have to ask them.

Thanx, Miss All Sunday!  That looks very promising.  Gonna try and test it out after a bit.  :)
