hi guys i have a huge problem with registration on my forum... when a member trying to register the following message is appearing
Template Parse Error!
It seems something has gone sour on the forum with the template system. This problem should only be temporary, so please come back later and try again. If you continue to see this message, please contact the administrator.

You can also try refreshing this page.

if someone press refresh then it says that the email and the username has been used.
actually the registration has done as i can see in the mysql database
but when the user trying to login it says that he must activate his account. when he press to resend the email the email can't be sent. i searched the forum here for similar problems and i tried some solution. but nothing. no problem was exactly as mine.
i am using smf 2.0.1 and i have only 2 mods.
Disable 'last edit by...' for Administrators and simpleportal.
please help me! i can see about 40 members in my database but anyone can login!!!

Huzzy

Have you checked the 'registration' settings in the admin area? Maybe you may have clicked something wrong in that area...

If not, You will have to upload the latest back up I think :S

zarzonis

yes i checked it very times... backup of what? thanks for the fast response!

Illori

zarzonis

yes i have 25 errors. 10 of them are general about email activation. 11 of them are undefined about the hide edit mod i have and 4 of them are about incorrect passwords during login

Illori

well without any related error messages not much we can suggest to you.

zarzonis

the message that pops up after registration can't help you? is there any chance to be host related?

Illori

no that does not tell much, i dont think it is host related

zarzonis

anything else i can do to help you helping me?

here is the register.php if someone can take a look

As that file's a different size to the original, I assume it's been modified. (Although, I can't see what the difference(s) are.

Try renaming it and putting a virgin copy of the file in it's place and see what happens. :)

Make sure it's read-enabled, too, just in case.

zarzonis

i did it but still nothing. i also updated my forum on 2.0.2 and i still have the same problem.

kat

If you switch to the SMF default theme, does it still screw?

zarzonis

kat

Let's assume that this DID work, at some stage...

Before it started going weird, did you do anything?

Like, add a mod, or edit anything?

zarzonis

no i have only 2 mods like i said before. the only changes i did was the banner and the row of home forum profile admin etc buttons

kat

Ah... I guess that might do it, if doing that screwed the template, somehow.

One way to find out...

Try renaming the file(s) that you edited and replace them with virgin versions and see if it sorts it.

zarzonis

i forgot to mention some width and height modifications on my theme. nothing else

"Something in the template's gone sour" says that some edit, somewhere, has gone screwy.

With PHP, that can simply mean that there's a bloody comma in the wrong place, or something THAT trivial, sadly.

You could always replace all of your files with virgin copies.

Obviously, you'll lose your edits and things, doing that, though. :(

Maybe try replacing everything in "Sources", first, to see how that goes?

Read my sig, first, though, so you're covered. ;)

zarzonis

if i backup my database can i delete all files and reupload it? if yes can i restore the database without losing any post of members?

Illori

you dont need to do anything to the database, just the files.

zarzonis

ok, but if i delete all files and reupload i won't lose anything right?

kat

All members/posts will be as-was. :)

Mods'll get trashed and will need to be reinstalled. :(

Illori

nothing but your mods that are installed but do NOT delete any file not included in the large upgrade package.

kat

DON'T OVERWRITE SETTINGS.PHP!!

Plus, you don't want to upload install.php (Or upgrade.php if you use the large upgrade).

zarzonis

i replaced the folder sources but still nothing. i'm going to replace all files right now. i must donwload the big upgrade from the download section and just the script? or manually delete every file via ftp and then upload from scratch? or replace every file without delete the previous ones?

kat

:) Read my last post CAREFULLY.

zarzonis

ok thank you. i used the large uprgade and still replacing. should i upload the sql upgrades from the large upgrade?

kat

zarzonis

now every file that has been replaced has a "~". now i have every file twice. for example i have subs.php and subs.php~ the second is the older one? is there any problem with that?

kat

You can ignore those.

They're backups made by some mods, when they install.

zarzonis

ITS WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! finally my forum is working properly again. thank so much guys for your interest. i'll mark this topic as solved.
