Help in placing the banner

Hi guys,

I am facing a problemw with the placement of my header banner...I have created a banner using photoshop and uploaded it from the current theme option...but somehow the banner is aligned to the left and there remains a significant amount gap on the right side..(file attached)..which makes it look little bad...I want the banner to take the full width available from left to right...I used different width sizes ranging from 900 to 1800, but still this gap remains.

another question was is there a way to place the banner under the menus (home,help,members,search,etc) ??

You could always cheat.

If you make the banner as a gif or png, you can create a part that's transparent, on the left, so that it looks central.

in part that may be best as if anyone changes their screen resolution to different from the op either the banner will be cut off or not long enough by more.

but the other things still remians...so it is not possible to place the banner under the main menu ??
