WOW. Really? Thank you!

Which files, you mean in Cpanel or just the entire thing? Cause the backup would be way too big to send.

I'm just trying to right now sort out what can definitely go. So that then we only have to deal with what is truly necessary.
Hmm, since the forum files are somewhat mixed in with a pile of other stuff, what is needed needs picked manually. The important ones would be SSI.php, index.php (in the same folder), the ENTIRE Sources and Themes directories.

Also of note to prevent massive disappointment later on: although upgrading will close multiple bugs and security issues, it won't entirely remedy your load and lag issues. It'll help, that's for sure.

I am downloading them manually and will zip them for you and have them emailed tonight. What is your email? You can PM it to me if you like. Thank you so much for this offer.

live627

I'll PM it. I don't want to post it here publicly - don't want even more spam.

wynnyelle

Right, I figured that.

Thank you again. I don't know how to thank you. I'm beside myself trying to get this whole mess worked out.

All right I tried to remove it again, and this time, when i got the errror, i recorded it before switching the old version back--

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '}' in /home/warrior/public_html/Sources/LogInOut.php on line 566

i am attaching the files, both, the smaller one is the one with the error. the larger one is he one with yagam on it still, that is the only one that works. i copied the code directly from a virgin copy of rc 3 for this removal and double checked wwith the parse code thing... i need some help, PLEASE!! ive been hoping someone would come on to give me some clue all day....i worked very hard to get all of this info. but i can go no further! Please!!
Try this one, the parse error should be gone now. Amazing what a single character can do, innit?

Also some code from YAGAM in ./Sources/ManagePermissions (those are the permission settings and won't have any effect on any behavior since the rest of the mod's code has been gutted.).

wynnyelle

OMG! I tried it and it worked! Thank you so much!

....I just want to remove anything that I don't need, that is the goal here.

The bulk of the errors are taking place in connexion with SimpleSEF, which I believe has conflicted with other old code or maybe new code--I just know it's glitching, though we need to keep it--and with profiles in general. I posted one of these sets of errors that keep happening, in my other open thread on this forum.

Is it safe to remove YAGAM from managepermissions as well?

Good thinking. Old, unused code can be a real nightmare!

Yes, it is.

wynnyelle

I did my best to take it all out. Seems to not be glitching, but it can be hard to tell.

I have another idea!!!

Okay. So my forum was originally on Proboards. We converted it to SMF AFTER we set up the theme, and functions on it. We lost a couple of threads, but other than that, things converted well.

Why don't we try that with my board? I could start a new installation of the new SMF going on my server, somewhere out of the way. We all work on it on the side, creating a new theme, I can then copy up the old ones, and installing all the functions we want. I guess themes would come last after all that stuff's been installed. Then, we just put my real site in maint and port over all the data tables from MySQL. If we need to we could do some kind of conversion thing like Neonneo's converters--transferring all the posts, members, threads, boards, name colours, ultimate profile stuff, all that, and if things go screwy we can troubleshoot it safely. Once it's at least almost all working fine and ported over, we can just reopen it as the new version of the site. If a few things got lost, we can port it over there after the fact as long as it doesn't get in the way.

What do you think?

This is what I tried to suggest a couple of weeks ago with you.  but you don't need a converter or anything.  And, to be honest, it's best to make your themes first, then add MODs and custom edits, so when adding MODs they get added to all themes at the same time.

In the root of your cPanel's file manager, create a folder called AASMF2  ( so the folder is conveniently up top ) , then upload the 2.0.2 smf install inside that folder then extract it's contects.   Afterwards goto http://warriorcatsrpg.com/AASMF2 and begin the install process to get the new forum started.  Process is going to take days/weeks depending on the edts you have to manually convert to the new upgraded version of smf 2.0.2

Then, you'd get your host to convert the test site files toi over write the live sitre files ... so the original database is intact, saving all members post, boards, topics, profile comments, PMs , the whole shibang!

As i said before, this is what I did from RC4 to 2.0.1 , I don't have crazy purchased custom edits like you have, but I did have specific modifications I did by hand myself, and it was tough keeping track of them all during the process.  not sure how you'll catch them all, since others did those custom edits for you.

I've done most of the tiny things. Like all the cosmetic things and removing emails and such. A LOT has been done. So much that I've considered paying a top programmer to just custom fix the entire forum, but that would basically wind up turning it into SMF's bastard cousin {if it isn't already...} and I'd be more or less on my own after that.

Thanks HCF. I will let you know how this goes. My main worry is that all those custom done tables and things won't transfer right. I guess we could always do a test run or two on the transfers before the final move.

My other concern is that once we transfer everything, the threads and profiles will then not have the same URLs anymore, and Google and all the other search engines will lose them all. That's a concern.

CS Sentinel

Hey Guys, I recently started using SMF and I think I may have made a mistake by "Deleting" the "Add Warning to Visitors" mod BEFORE installing it and now the code is stuck above the main logo at the top of the page.  If you would like to view what I'm talking about please visit my forum:  The CS Sentinel Relic Forum

I would greatly appreciate any help that you guys could give me on how I can remove this code from there.  I even reinstalled the mod and uninstalled it again hoping that would wipe it away but it did not.....now I am up in arms and don't know where to go from here??  :-\ :-\

Illori

please open a separate thread for your issue, this thread belongs to someone else and is marked solved.
